3 things to think about when installing Cavity Sliders:

1.	Consider setting your pocket frame at finished flooring height. You’ll thank yourself later when you need to get to the T-Guide for adjustments. Not totally necessary but is a nice option if you know that spec.

2.	Install the Jamb Spreader before drywall goes up. It prevents the jambs from bowing inward and stops the pocket from getting compressed during drywall install.

3.	Use a temporary door, like a 2x6, to set your SofStop activators. Once the finished door is ready, it slides right in with all the hardware already in place.

Small steps now, smooth door for years.

What’s happening in your market? Is it cooling off? Are your clients affected by the economy or mortgage rates? Mixed feelings exist is our market. Some folks aren’t concerned, some are very worried. Where do we go from here?

The history of every tool I or my company Aarow Building owns has a story. A specific need met for a specific job. Some tools come and go quickly but most stay for a very long time. I believe the first Fein tool (oscillating tool) I ever purchased is now older than a couple of our employees. For sure some of our aluminum ladders are. This little set of pliers isn’t a widely useful set of pliers but I will likely never toss them out due to the memory of using them in our first family home. What is the tool you will hold onto forever and why?

When I think of Maine I think Lobster Rolls. After that I think of forests. Lots of forests. Maine has access to an amazing natural resource in the form of timber. For decades that timber harvest supported the paper industry with its byproducts. When the paper industry moved overseas Maine took a huge hit. Now one product is helping to revive a mill in Maine and put people back to work while also producing a product for our industry. @timberhp.insulatebetter is producing high-quality, low-carbon, wood fiber insulation. That’s why we took the time to visit Maine. Wednesday July 8th the next installment of Built Here publishes on our YouTube channel, I hope you check it out!

Recently I had an online ‘discussion’ (argument) with someone that sub-slab insulation isn’t needed, even in northern climates because the ground temps are 45-50 degrees F. This is all about unheated slabs. Let us think about that for a moment. Set aside the idea of what code requires for starters. If the outdoor temp was consistently 45-50 degrees would you leave your walls uninsulated? Of course not. Could you, yes. We frequently upgrade our HVAC systems to accommodate uninsulated walls, especially when retrofitting very old buildings.  Does it make sense to build new this way, no. So why would we take the only surface that we are in constant bare-skin contact with (shoes in the house people are nasty) and allow it to couple to 45–50-degree temps. The thermal draw on the earths mass is substantially larger than that of the slab you will install and condition. Yes you can spend your money on equipment and operation of equipment to make that slab comfy. Or you can insulate and spend less over the life of the slab.
