Story time: Tucson, Land of big ass cactus and nose bleeds.
My 1st Tour de Tucson I had no idea what to expect. I was simply excited to ride 100 miles, but the morning of the ride seeing a sea of thousands of people at the start line at 7am was amazing. I heard the announcer asking the riders if they were riding or racing, and thought to myself who would race 100 miles? Turns out thousands of people come from around the world to race this incredible event. 2 years ago I rode it with the goal to reach gold which is a century in under 6:30 for women and I missed it by 20 min coming in at 6:50 due to stopping a lot, and not being fit at all. This year I came with the goal to reach platinum which is coming in, in less than 5:30 for women 5:hr for men. I got to start in the platinum corral which was dope, and was immediately dropped as to be expected, this is a group of pro 1, 2, racers 🥴 but I continued to ride, jumping on groups as they passed by then continuing on alone when they would stop. At miles 60 - 80 I was alone in my head, asking myself, “Why TF am I doing this? Is it just for the medal? Hmmm.” I continued on fighting my thoughts of giving up and the wind, then got to a sweet downhill 😈 as I flew past people this young man caught up to me to say, “you’re freaking awesome.” And my response was, “hmmm sometimes.” And I smiled and continued to push because the clock was ticking. After mile 80 a group came through cooking so I jumped on and was happy to see another woman, as we rode I heard her say, “ I’m not going to make it.” So I knew we had the same goal, “ I say to her, “ Don’t give up, we got this.” And we rode like hell to stay with that group. Dodging cones and people doing the shorter distances. Coming in at 5:23 they handed me my platinum medal, the 1st thing I thought was “damn I should have got a sub 5 century🥴” honest to god, I almost cried, before I realized how far I’ve come, and how capable I am. So, I will continue to ride my bike, and I’ll be back to PR again. It was a joy to see so many familiar faces, friends, teammates, and cycling family this year. I truly had a blast.

Camp Strava… oh what a time to be alive!
What is Camp Strava?
Camp Strava is an annual event gathering incredible athletes, explorers, community builders, event organizers and world-class brands that drive movement across the globe. Strava uses this event to unveil their upcoming features and connect with the community.

@strava is one of my favorite apps, (obviously IG wins all time fav, but Strava is quickly changing that) Last year I heard about camp Strava and thought, I need to be there and tried to figure out every which way to get in, everybody I knew was going was male, and this happens a lot, and it pisses me off because I always find myself being the one asking “Where are the black women?” We are out here in these sports as well. After frustratingly whining like a baby, Curran added me to represent the Queens. Fast forward, this year I was honored to get my very own invite. This year’s camp was different in a lot of ways, there were several Women of color and of influence, all leaders in their respective communities. There was more representation of all abilities as well, which I love to see, since people with physiological and mental differences make up 13% of this country, sadly only 17% of that 13% are able to participate in the activities that we love, for various reasons, so meeting @kylestepp and learning about the incredible work he’s doing to change that is one of my favorite moments from Camp. Another milestone moment for me was the best practices for creators and clubs panel, as much as I love learning from CEOs and Olympians, it’s the seeing my peers nerd out on their passion of building community, being trail blazer’s and leading by example for meeee! Big congratulations to all the panelists, you all inspire me! Another person that inspires me soooo much is Stravas own Zip Allen, I met her last year on the hike and we talked about cycling and running and I was oooh girl I don’t run that hurts my knees, and she went on telling me her plans to train and run a Marathon… and she went on to do just that, and I know because I watched her Strava, she has the receipts. When I saw her Marathon upload It made me proud and inspired. Thank you Queen

Super stoked to stand on a podium at LAX circuit race. Last year I saw pictures and really wanted to stand on the podium with my very own flowers 💐. Honored to race with all the incredible women in the field today 🫶🏾
Thank you to everyone who supports me on this journey.

Had an amazing weekend with part of the team. @onyxadventureracing teams 1st time at Sea Otter aka bikechella lol! It was great to connect with so many people and see how incredible the mountain bike community is. I feel after this weekend I may have to add 1 more bike to my arsenal and get out to Colorado and Arkansas 😉. Overall it was a great experience, it takes a lot to put on an event of that magnitude, glad I could experience it! I’ll be back for the ribs 😜
Huge congratulations to my teammate @zizzy3 on her first mountain bike races. You inspire me and everyone in your orbit daily! It takes guts 🫶🏾
Congratulations to my teammate @jonnymosesoutside for flying his family across the country to come out here and take on the gravel and fuego races, I’m very proud of you and look forward to future adventures chief 😎
Huge Thank you to Cliff Lyles for putting this team of incredible humans together and always supporting and getting out there with us.

When traveling across the country to race up a big mountain on foot, mountain bike and canoe for 24hrs sounds like a good time 😄

This weekend I completed my 1st team event with Team Onyx (@onyxadventureracing )
It was a 24 hour adventure race. What is an adventure race? Adventure racing is a sport where you use maps, to navigate to reach check points to earn points as a team, not a relay, all together. Let me add this is primarily on foot, mountain bike, and some form of water craft you have to paddle.
This event challenged me physically, mentally, and emotionally. Honestly if it weren’t for having a team I would have given up, but knowing every member of my team had completed events that were longer, and harder, under worst conditions was enough motivation to keep me moving forward.

Prior to 2 weeks ago I had never been on a mountain bike, now I’m confident on one. Our team captain @cliftonlyles set up a 4 day training camp for our team leading up to the race, so I got to learn some skills that definitely helped me during this race. I can’t describe how proud I am of our team. Being from Los Angeles, coming to a race where 98% of the people don’t look like you, traveling down a river, and past houses with confederate flags, and other trinkets, while hearing gun shots in the distance, is uncomfortable to say the least and that fact we show up, compete, endure, in these spaces that aren’t designed to be inclusive is honestly incredible to me.

I will write more… I just wanted to post something for those who have been following. It was an incredible experience, I look forward to doing more and growing as a human 🙏🏾

Special thanks to @arcteryx @giantbicycles @cuoreofswiss
@bedrocksandals
And all the people who made this week possible.

It’s my 1st #medalmonday of 2022. Had a great time this weekend riding around Palm Springs. Got to briefly ride along side of Nelson “The Cheetah”Vails, (I love that nickname) who is the 1st Black American to medal in cycling in the 1984 Olympics.
.
Lots of firsts this past weekend! My 1st ride as a member of @qrtcycling, it was great to ride with queens @locchoice @nadjalawrence @robynemcycling and my cycling bestie @cassady_sakura .
I got my first little road rash, I’m extremely grateful it wasn’t worst. For those that are new to my IG, I’ve been cycling 8 months, bought my road bike 4 months ago, a lot of things are still very new to me, I enjoy the newness of it all, I live with PTSD, which comes with some anxiety, so it’s a battle to leave the house at times, so I love sharing my journey of all my adventures as I explore and enjoy the beautiful world around me.
