Short answer, probably not.

Permanent life insurance is the type of insurance that you pay more for - MUCH more for - but at some point in life, you get your money back. Here's the thing, almost all people are better suited with a term life policy instead.

Life insurance, used as an investment, is great when 🔽🔽

💢 You are rich: fully contributed TFSA, RRSP, a healthy emergency savings account, and still more cash that you don't know what to do with.

💢 You have a permanent life insurance need. Some people want to cover their final expenses if you have dependent adult children that will need help if you are not around - a risk that is not going away ever.

💢 You have been diagnosed with a life-limiting disease. If you are very sick, it is near impossible to get life insurance. If you had a term (the cheap one) life policy and then were diagnosed with something life-threatening, you should convert your term policy to a permanent one. There is no medical qualification in converting - a huge benefit of getting term insurance early in life.

Coles Notes 📝 you do not need a permanent life insurance policy unless you are looking for an investment that shelters your money from taxes, have a lifelong insurable need, or have become ill.

Agree or disagree? 𝘾𝘼𝙇𝙇 𝙤𝙧 𝙀𝙈𝘼𝙄𝙇 𝙢𝙚 ; 𝙄 𝙜𝙤𝙩 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙮𝙖 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩! 😌

Okay, okay - enough already...we get it! 😒

The financial industry has done an AWFUL job of disclosing fees and being transparent over the past 20 years. But the commercials have to stop - we are beating a dead horse at this point, people! *cough* Questtrade😌

The solution is not to 'take your ball home' and try and figured it out on your own, taking advice from bloggers and influencers.

The solution is to find an advisor that is open, honest and transparent. Find someone that you could go for a beer with, not the dude at the bank.

Money is a personal subject. It is also a very, very complex subject. Going it on your own is not only hard, it is dangerous.

Find someone that feels like a teammate, not a CRUSTY SUIT that you can't trust enough to ask open and honest conversations about fees.😶

Don't believe me? Shoot me a message and lets go for a beer (I'll buy). 🍻

When you're investing in something I want you to ask yourself ▶️ 'what is the return policy?'. A day, a week, a year later? How much will it cost you to give it back if you don't want it?

If your investment is locked-in, has large fees attached to ending it, or - MY FAV - you are told 'it's complicated, then you should strongly reconsider what you are investing in‼️

There are circumstances that you can't get your money back right away and it's totally justified, but don't underestimate the importance of liquidity (your ability to get your money back!).

Shout out to @ms.moneyandmath for the inspo 💰🐷

🔐 If you're an employee, you probably have income replacement group insurance coverage. You can't work and get enough money monthly to keep you afloat until you can.

🔐 If you’re self-employed and don't have a group plan, you need disability coverage - the most that you can afford - ASAPPPP!

Think about it! Who is going to pay your bills if you get hurt? NO ONE! Read that again! Nooo oneeeeeee…

Push your profitability back a year or two if you have to in order to afford a proper insurance policy. It's the cost of doing business for yourself!

Who will pay your bills? 😩

As a healthy non-smoking male, I pay over $600 a month for disability and critical illness insurance coverage. BUT, I know that if anything happens my business will be okay and my family will keep food on the table. 🙏

𝕋𝕙𝕣𝕖𝕖 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕤 𝕒𝕗𝕗𝕖𝕔𝕥 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣 𝕨𝕖𝕒𝕝𝕥𝕙:

ＹＯＵ：there is no ‘𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒄𝒌’ scheme; no one is going to save you or lift you up financially. It is up to YOU to become wealthy.

By investing on a regular basis and continuing to challenge yourself to save & invest more, you are doing your part. Living in a world of debt and buying nice things to impress people you don’t know (or like) won’t make you rich. Being diligent about paying yourself first and investing in yourself will.

ＴＨＥＭＡＲＫＥＴ：whether it’s individual stocks, ETFs or mutual funds, investing in the market remains the easiest and most accessible way to get rich. When you invest in the market, your money grows – it works for you. When your money grows, there is more money that is working for you.

If your investments earn 5% on $10,000, you make $500 a year. If you have $1,000,000 instead of $10,000, that 5% makes you $50,000 a year. If you make 7% instead of 5% with that million dollars, you make an extra $20,000 a year.

The goal isn’t to have more money so you can ‘be rich’! The goal is to have more money so you don’t have to work – your money does that for you.

ＹＯＵＲＡＤＶＩＳＯＲ: a coach, a mentor, a neutral third party mediator – good advice is not all about getting the highest return, it's about talking you through the tough decisions, helping you avoid making big mistakes at bad times, AND – an often overlooked part of the experience – making growing your wealth fun, not intimidating and scary.

Favorite feeling --> meeting with retired clients that have their 'ish' together and I tell them how much they will leave their kids when they pass, "I just don't get it, how could it be worth so much?"

In my humble opinion, as a parent, your goals need to be - in this order:

1. Never be a financial burden to your kids.

2. Be able to afford the quality of life you want to live. AND....

3. Leave a legacy to your kids (or an important cause or relative).

So, what do you do when you know you check boxes 1 and 2 but don't want to leave your kids $3,000,000 when you die (no one gave you anything, right?!)? My favorite answers:

**Spoil them!** Take them and their kids to Disneyland or a cruise. Spend your money on things that you get to enjoy with them.

**Take care of their kids:** Start RESPs for the grandkids & buy them permanent life insurance policies; do the financial things that your kids will eventually get to - but are worried about paying mortgages, working long hours and $4,000 a month in childcare costs.

**Buy a family asset:** Can we say caaaaabin?! Buy that family cabin that you always have wanted to have and set up the ownership structure so that, when you pass, the kids own the cabin and will for generations to come.

Ca-bin! 📢 Ca-bin! 📢 Ca-bin! 📢
