There is something about the “winter uniform”—the heavy @barbour coat and my favorite worn-in boots @lanxshoes —that just feels right when the temperature drops. But even with the perfect gear, I’d be completely lost without this in my pocket.

This isn’t just any lip balm. It’s my daily non-negotiable, hand-poured right here in the Rooted Workshop.

When I started formulating these, I knew I wanted to strip away the synthetic fillers and get back to what actually works. That’s why everything we use is 100% natural. We focus on ingredients that are genuinely kind to your skin, packed with nutrients that restore rather than just coat.

The secret weapon? Local beeswax. 🐝

It creates the absolute perfect, breathable barrier against the harsh, biting wind and dry winter air. It doesn’t just sit on top; it shields you. It’s the difference between cracked, uncomfortable skin and keeping that soft, protected glow all season long.

I love being able to pull something from my pocket that I know, ingredient by ingredient, was made with care.

Want to learn the craft? I’m opening up the studio to teach you exactly how to formulate your own natural, nourishing skincare. Come get your hands dirty, learn the science of the ingredients, and leave with your own custom stash.

View the pinned list of upcoming dates and message us to book your spot at the Rooted Workshop. Let’s make this your most hydrated winter yet. ❄️✨

After five years of painstaking restoration, one of Edinburgh’s most iconic landmarks has been returned to its former glory. Last week we visited the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh to explore the newly restored Palm House, which dates back to 1834 and was built soon after the garden relocated to Inverleith in the 1820s.

The complex restoration which took over five years to complete involved replacing or repairing 5,000 panes of glass, repainting the ironwork and cleaning the sandstone. Now the glass gleams in the autumn sunlight, and 800 plant specimens have returned home. Five years after the work began, Edinburgh’s historic nineteenth-century glasshouse has been given a new lease of life—a cathedral of glass protecting an extraordinary collection of plants.

The reason for such a massive restoration? The ageing structure had become leaky and rusty, so it had to close for essential work that would preserve the building for future generations and allow the Botanic Gardens to continue its vital mission; “to explore, conserve and explain the world of plants.”

And it's through the eyes of children that you see gardens and glass houses through a whole new lens. It becomes a jungle to explore and uncover exotic plants, transporting their big imaginations to far flung places.

The height of five double decker buses, the palm house is full of fascinating facts and stories that they will cling on to and absorb. Like the world's wonkiest tree, or the bark that helps guerillas when they have sore tummies. They'll be mesmerised and in awe of the humble fern, which is the most resilient plant going, having outlived the dinosaurs post asteroid!

You can read my full feature about the newly restored Palm House online this week at Amateur Gardening Magazine, along with lots of other features I've been writing throughout September and October.

Oh and swipe to the last photo to see a four legged friend we made! 😺

The Quiraing 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😍

Every time I visit Scotland, I seem to get lucky with the weather… and honestly, I’m not complaining! 😅 Just look at that landscape, sunshine and blue skies. Pure magic! ☀️🏔️

After an early morning hike up The Storr, our second stop of the day was The Quiraing, and WOW… just WOW! 😍 The landscape is absolutely mind-blowing, with breathtaking views everywhere you look. One of those places that makes you stop in your tracks and just take it all in 🤍

The girls also reached their peak celebrity status here! 🐾📸 It was quite busy, and we heard so many *“Wow, they’re so beautiful!”* comments. Plenty of photos were taken, and a few people even stopped to have their photos taken with my girls! 😂 If you happen to spot Harley and Scout popping up somewhere online, please let me know! 😉📸

We stopped for lunch with a view because honestly, can you think of a better lunch spot? 😍🎒 While Scout was busy admiring the scenery and taking it all in, Harley was keeping a very close eye on me… just in case I decided to produce some snacks from my backpack! 🤣🐾 Priorities, right?!

🚗 A little practical tip: There’s a fairly large car park, so we had no trouble finding a space. However, if you’re visiting during tourist season, be prepared for some interesting driving encounters! 😅 Some visitors in rental cars seem to have missed the memo about passing places and occasionally stop right in the middle of the road. 🤦‍♀️😂 Take your time and drive carefully!

Scotland, you really are something special. And with these two by my side, every adventure is even better. 🤍🖤🐾🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The most spectacular colours of autumn 🍂

These @lanxshoes Conker Whalley boots are just the epitome of autumn, the vibrancy of them makes them feel almost living. When I saw this leaf 🍁 pile I had to capture this to show off the warmth of the boots 🥾 I really love these, they feel so lived in already.

Happy footwear Friday!

Ahhh gotta love this time of year, plenty of autumn strolls, copious amounts of coffee, and the occasional trip to the pub.

The only thing that’s not to love is the shorter days of course.

A few frames from the Lake District and the Scottish Highlands from last Autumn. 🍂
