Aspendale, Kenton, Delaware

Aspendale is a remarkably well-preserved Georgian-style plantation house located about a mile west of Kenton, Delaware. Built between 1771 and 1773 for Charles Numbers, the house is distinguished by its brick construction and rare "Quaker plan" interior, which features a large parlor spanning the full depth of the house. The exterior is a textbook example of Delaware’s regional colonial architecture, utilizing a decorative Flemish bond pattern on the main facades and featuring traditional paneled shutters on the ground floor. The estate spans over 200 acres of fields and woodlands, remaining a quiet vestige of the 18th-century agricultural landscape in Kent County.

What sets Aspendale apart from many other colonial landmarks is its extraordinary continuity of ownership; the property has remained in the hands of the same family since its original construction in 1771. Although the interior underwent some Victorian-era modifications, including the subdivision of the Great Parlor and the addition of a porch, these changes were meticulously reversed during a restoration in the 1960s to return the home to its original appearance. Because it has survived with so few structural changes over 250 years, Aspendale serves as one of the most authentic representations of a pre-Revolutionary Delaware plantation home.

It was declared a #nationalhistoriclandmark in 1970.

I met @emilyfarthingart in the trenches of the press pit at my first Paris fashion week. If you know, you KNOW the amount of pressure, shouting, and shoving that can ensue as fashion week photographers competitively clamor to get the perfect runway shot. This can be an especially intimidating spot for a content creator like myself, with a travel-size gimbal barely staying afloat in a sea of cameras. 📸✨

Emily was a smile in a crowded pit that day, and beyond a friendly face, I’ve learned that Emily is more than a photographer. She is a beacon of light in any dark corner, and she creates light in her photography by kindling the light within the women she photographs. It was such an honor to finally BE one of these LUCKY women last time I was in the city! 💞

The moral of the story behind these shots is this - always be prepared for a photoshoot!😅 Photographer @ali_photographer77 & I met and spontaneously started shooting in Beverly Hills while I was perusing Rodeo Drive, and FORTUNATELY, I was dressed for LA Fashion Week. (…although I basically did my hair & makeup on the plane, and changed into this fabulous fit just before the cab ride from the airport.) LA Fashion Week in fall always gets me thinking…
