It's Sarah here introducing this guest reel recorded in the Rocky Mountains by my dear friend @larissawild who is featured in our latest video!

I first met Larissa when she invited me to appear as a guest on The Art Elevator Podcast (which we now co-host) so it was a delightfully full-circle moment when Patrick McIntyre, ISA @patrickrfmcintyre and I spoke with Larissa about her appraisal business on our YouTube channel!

In our latest episode of "Meet the Appraiser" we chat with Larissa about her specialization in appraising American Western Art, her appraisal firm Rocky Mountain Art Appraisal Group, and the ways artists (including Larissa!) have been creatively inspired by the beautiful landscapes of the American West.

Our entire conversation can be found on the Artifactual History blog. Thank you Larissa Wild!

Now live on Artsy.

Honored to be part of Women-Led Galleries Now, Artsy’s curated presentation highlighting women shaping contemporary art.

Presented by Larissa Wild Fine Art, my works are currently shown alongside Marilyn Borglum.

Miriam Vlaming’s paintings move between figuration and abstraction, using luminous color and layered egg tempera to evoke states of memory, emotional presence, and inner transformation.

Proud to share this beautiful reflection on my work written by Larissa Wild Fine Art, now accompanying my new pieces on Artsy.

„Miriam Vlaming’s art delves into the fragile nature of human existence by exploring the spaces between past and present, capturing moments of uncertainty and transition. Her paintings evoke landscapes and human figures, resembling faded photographs that invite viewers to create their own narratives. Using egg tempera in layered techniques, Vlaming reveals glimpses of previous stages, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. This approach reflects the transience of her stories, leaving them open to interpretation. Her work, blending the visible world with imagined scenes, resonates with a deep human need for understanding. As art professional Larissa Wild notes, Vlaming’s pieces offer familiarity that orients the viewer while introducing mystery, suggesting new possibilities and transformations.“

This is “Little Wild Paint on Desert Tangerine”. One of the first of new horses I’m doing using underpainting as a primary element. Calligraphic line and varying degrees of opacity are supporting formal considerations.

Painted in acrylic on canvas, this portrait of a black and white paint horse is actually done in a palette that ranges from mixed blue-infused blacks to glazed whites mixed with turquoise.

With the brown-tangerine underpainting peeking through each brushstroke, the piece operates equally as painting of a horse, and an abstract piece, making it work in interiors as a design element where color and line become the focus.

I did a second version of The Hunter. This one is quite a bit larger at 36x36”, where the first version was 28x22”. I also changed the color of the underpainting. For those that aren’t equestrians, a hunter horse is usually of Thoroughbred descent, traditionally used for Fox hunting in England where the Thoroughbred horse was first bred. These days more commonly, used in equestrian competition although there seems to be a revival of fox hunting with a dragged scent.
You fox hunters can correct me on this but I don’t think foxes are still used. As for the show hunter, warm bloods from Eastern Europe are now a favorite of equestrians.

And while there seems to be a whole lot of greys out there now, I think it’s safe to say the historically quintessential color of a hunter is a bay or dark chestnut.

These more contemporary painted sketches (in contrast to my more traditional horses)), are offered through Larissa Wild Fine Art (link in bio) Maneline Art, and Paderewski Fine Art.
