Larnaka2030 welcomed the first ASSEMBLE Curatorial Lab to the city in June 2026. As the team behind Larnaka's European Capital of Culture 2030 programme, they introduced ASSEMBLE to two of their flagship projects - Synoikismos and Pathkia-Pathkia - and to the communities at the heart of both.
Synoikismos works with the refugee housing estates built after 1974, approaching them as living sites of cultural heritage and social cohesion, connecting Larnaka's displaced communities with similar neighbourhoods across the Eastern Mediterranean. Pathkia-Pathkia - Cypriot dialect for "step by step" - maps five villages of the Dromolaxia-Meneou municipality through stories, memory and short performance, led by seven women who grew up there.
"The core concept of Larnaka2030 is common ground - not about erasing differences, but about creating spaces where different histories, identities and experiences can coexist with dignity, dialogue and mutual respect." - Costas, Larnaka2030
ASSEMBLE is an international cultural project exploring the climate emergency at the intersection of involuntary migration, displacement, conflict and ecological decline.
Funded by the European Union, ASSEMBLE is realised through a partnership between @d6_eu_ (Cyprus), @congress.of.cultural.activists (Ukraine), @movartists (Spain), the international mobility network @otm.network, D6: Culture in Transit (UK), @atriskartists (France) and @larnaka2030 (Cyprus).
