The vibe at today’s I LOVE LOUIS rehearsal? Pure bliss!

Alex Wilson on piano and musical direction, Shireen Francis on vocals, Larry Bartley on bass, Kenrick Rowe on drums — and Byron Wallen on trumpet not in shot!

Tomorrow night, I can’t wait to share all things Louis Armstrong with you: the music, the joy, and our shared Creole African journey told through song, rhythm and story.

And I think it’s safe to say… we’re almost sold out! Don’t miss it.

Friday 9 October · PizzaExpress Live, Soho

Had a wonderful time yesterday live on Africa Speaks, sharing the many chapters of my journey and the story behind my lifelong connection with Louis Armstrong.

From architecture to music, karate to faith—and from Freetown to stages around the world!

It was a lively and inspiring conversation—and another exciting stop on the road to I LOVE LOUIS at PizzaExpress Live Soho on Friday 9 October.

Watch the interview and discover the story behind the music! Check boig for link.

Scrolling back through more messages, I found this wonderful footage of Harry (Brown) and his Octet from a show in 2019 at Brighton College.
It was a gig with a talk as well. Harry had put me on the guestlist. You can hear me ‘woop’ after his solo and a lovely smile follows.
I believe this footage was taken by @samdorrellmusic (thank you). I’ve tried to tag as many of the musicians involved. I hope you all don’t mind me sharing this.

Fresh from Festival da Jazz, St Moritz, BAFTA-nominated performing artist Gwyn Jay Allen and BBC Jazz Award-winning pianist and composer @alexwilsonpiano return with an exciting new evolution of "I Love Louis" story in a vibrant night of jazz, rhythm, storytelling and the irresistible spirit of New Orleans.

More than a tribute, I Love Louis goes behind Louis Armstrong's famous smile to discover the man, the music and the extraordinary journey that made him a global icon.

Vocalist @francis.shireen joins the company, bringing another dimension to Armstrong's story through Ella Fitzgerald and the women who shared Louis's life.

Their shared Sierra Leone Creole heritage adds a deeply personal dimension to Louis' extraordinary journey across the Atlantic and back again.

Expect Louis Armstrong classics and original songs exploring all that is Creole music from New Orleans rhythms, Caribbean and West African influences, Latin grooves and some serious swing from an outstanding band.

Gwyn Jay Allen – Vocals, Guitar & Percussion
@alexwilsonpiano – Musical Director & Piano
@francis.shireen – Featured Vocals
@larrybartley9 – Acoustic Bass
