2026 for me so far has felt like hitting the “reset” button on what I thought my climbing season (and life in general) would look like right now.

It’s also forced me to examine how much I’ve viewed climbing with a sense of entitlement rather than gratitude and privilege. I’m being reminded a lot of my younger self and early years of climbing outside. Saying yes, getting rid of lists, trying hard with less reserve, goofing off with my friends, going home tired and fulfilled regardless of grades or sends.

With that, I’m changing the way I’ve approached social media to reflect those ebbs and flows. I’ve made a few YouTube vids you’re welcome to checkout in my bio (nothing fancy, think 2010) and will be largely trying to switch to that format of sharing 😊

They say the grass is always greener outside of Chatt, but this certainly wasn't the case for Tyre. An elusive crusher who decimates classic test pieces and leaves neo-hardlines in his wake. Not much is known about Tyre outside of his friendly disposition and infatuation with rocks and pub subs, so we here at Synergy Climbing and Ninja sat down with Tyre “Larry” Taft (no relation to the former President) for an interview that felt more akin to an interrogation. But we got some answers out of him.

After a refusal to show his birth certificate, we had no choice but to take Tyre’s word that he was born in Greenville, NC. Not much was surmised about his life BRC (Before Rock Climbing) but we do have confirmation of a brief tutelage in study of electrical systems in Asheville before he found climbing, which then consumed him.

Like many Southerners before him, Tyre was briefly led astray under false pretenses that Salt Lake City would be the place he flourishes. After two years he wisened up and moved to Chattanooga without ever visiting! Despite a brief hiccup in moving to Boone, today he continues to rampage in good ‘ol Tennessee.

Tyre has only been climbing for 5.5 years and has managed to repeat some of the South’s hardest climbs like Tuggin Undies (v11, Dogwood) The Jewel (v12, Chatt) Levity (v13, NC). If that wasn't enough, he has also FA’d dozens of future classics like Omura, Birdwatcher & Planet Ireland (North Chick), Salem’s Lot (Soddy) and American Spirit (T-Wall)

When he's forced to rest, he’ll gladly spend his time hiking, supporting his significant other Lucy’s climbing and playing with their cat, Greg.

He’s a fun, friendly and unassuming freak. Be sure to say “hi” when you see him!

One week left to wrap shooting and editing on this project with @larrydroppins and @gerardthedude. We’re stoked to show off some of the best creekside boulders in the south. @mellowclimbing Rock Games better watch out.

Deep Sea Cowboy v9

First saw this awesome stingray feature a few years ago with @larrydroppins but never went back to climb it for some reason. Fun session earlier in the week figuring it out with Tyre and @jarsal22 and happy to finish it up today!!

Very pleasant scenic lip traverse into crux mantle, what more could a girl want?!

Went on a big walk w my bestie and got to climb a boulder I’ve been wanting to do for years. Amazing!!!
