Ceesepe. I really love these two pieces, this one and the next. They were in a large room filled with art, album covers, posters/flyers, and photos of La Movida Madrileña, the countercultural movement (mainly epicentered in Madrid) that emerged folllowing the death of Franco in ‘75. All of it was so exciting and blew my mind with how punk and queer and raw and vibrant it was. When a country lives under the crushing, dispiriting weight of a fascist ruler - and then that era ends and the floodgates open once again - all sorts of glorious, mutant, electric things burst forth. 🌈 I need to read more about this movement and the artists in it, I’m fascinated.

Ceesepe. Looking at these pieces, his style seemed so familiar to me; upon further research, I discovered he did the posters for Almodóvar’s “Pepi, Luci, Bom” and “Law of Desire”.

On to Madrid. A gorgeous city (with gorgeous inhabitants). My vermut fixation continued (loved @tabernamalaspinamadrid and went twice for tapas and sips), we walked all over the damn place, saw lots of pretty gay shit (fuego AI hunkbots!), discovered an excellent bookstore called @desperateliterature run by lovely and friendly folks, was a creepy creeper and took many covert snaps of hot men, and we even found a couple of cool movie houses along the way. #spain2026

Final night in Barcelona, and one of the best meals I’ve had in years at @santagustinabcn. That first dish was a tuna tataki with ajo blanco, trout roe, toasted almonds and grapes (seriously…wow). Next up was a perfect grilled octopus with beans, aioli and chipotle. Not pictured but also devoured were prawn tempura with coral mayo…asparagus and bimis gribiche sauce with parmesan…and mushroom croquettes, of course. We were joined by our friend David, who lives about a hour north of Barcelona; he then walked us to L’Eixample (snapping pics along the way of hot cops, skateboarders, and dogs, what else?), and we finished the night with mojitos at @belladonabcn. A fine send off to a lovely city I can’t wait to return to. I got up extra early the next morning to take a final walk down Pg. de Colom to get some pics of the Monument a Colom before we caught the train and headed on to our next destination… #spain2026 #adiosbarcelona

More fun from last week in El Born, Gothic Quarter, and La Barceloneta. The “I ❤️” t-shirt phenom has choked the windows of tacky tourist shops across the city. It’s hard to pick just one that explains my own many loves, so I purchased exactly none. We had a lunch of gazpacho and patatas bravas at the lovely @gatsbarcelona (slide 12) which gave us the strength to acquire even more penis-referencing tchotchkes and nibbles. It was pretty cool to finally see the Balearic Sea (slide 16, in case you couldn’t figure that out), but man, does it just get trashier and trashier the closer you get to the seaside (lots of prime opportunities for Americans to drink daiquiris and listen to techno, if that’s your bag). And so cool to finally visit the densely-stocked @revolverrecbcn (slide 17, thanks for the insider tip on the upstairs bins, @agdaven!). Despite the novelty appeal of buying Spanish editions of books I already own and love in English-language editions (Julian Cope’s JAPROCKSAMPLER and that Billy Childish book), I admirably controlled myself. But I did get Face to Face by the Kinks (wanted it on vinyl forever), the nifty 30th anniversary expanded edition of Seamonsters by the Wedding Present (my fave; the b-sides from this era are spectacular and it’s nice to have them all in one place), the Primal Scream RSD thing I didn’t score here in the States (“Star Fruit Surf Rider”, a teenage favorite), and a clutch of random 45’s. Like I wasn’t gonna buy “MacArthur Park” for €2? Also, who is so irresponsible as to leave a cake out in the rain? What is wrong with people?? #spain2026

Built between 1905 and 1908, and designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, the Palau de la Música Catalana was breathtaking and the first major landmark we visited in Barcelona at the start of the week. Thanks for the recommendation, @krankpress (who was coincidentally there just a few days before we were!). After taking it all in, we stopped into the beautiful cafe where I had a refreshing aperol spritz and some satisfyingly briny Gilda Pintxos. 🫒 🌶️ #spain2026 #palaudelamúsicacatalana #lluísdomènechimontaner #modernisme

We spent the last week of June on our first-ever journey to Spain. It was delicious, epic, exhausting and magical. I’m going to spread these posts out over the next few days so as to not overwhelm your feed too much. These pics are from the first night and day in Barcelona as we explored El Born, La Barceloneta, and the Gothic Quarter, ate many croquettes (can you really eat too many croquettes?), octopus, and Iberian ham, luxuriated in La hora del vermut (I am now _obsessed_ with vermut), found lots and lots of street art/sticker art and wheat paste scuzz, marveled at the beauty of the Cathedral of Barcelona, and tried valiantly not to melt from the drippy heat enveloping the city. More to come, stay tuned… #spain2026 #vacationbaby #santjoan #lahoradelvermut

New life rule: when the universe offers you an unexpected session of Saturday morning #goatyoga, you take it (especially when it’s on the back lawn of the beautiful @gamblehouse). Kudos to @hellocrittercare for a wonderful time.
