Really happy to see my digital sculpture in person alongside some amazing pieces opening in Edinburgh for the Royal Scottish Academy’s Summer Exhibition

Exhibition runs 6th May - 11th June, Mon to Sat 10am-5pm, Sun 12-5pm
RSA Upper and Lower Galleries, Free entry

____

We Are What The Internet Makes Us - I is a digital sculpture of a female character, blinking, breathing and twitching over ten minutes, slowly morphing into five different ideological representations of an idealised or ‘perfected’ self in an experimental format of sculptural digital bodybuilding. Developed with a human model, the character is modified in post-production, looking directly into the camera and into your eyes, playing into Masahiro Mori’s psychological construct of The Uncanny Valley - the moment between your brain’s perception of a healthy human and a robot. We Are What The Internet Makes Us asks a series of questions; Who might you be if you could design yourself in any way imaginable? How is new media affecting how we perceive ourselves, and what role do society and technology play in self-mediation?

Model - Wing Yue Leung
MUA & Prosthetics - Tamara Dickson-Jones
Production Assistants - Dian-Jen Lin, Isabela Branca Gygax, Lara Gill

WE ARE WHAT THE INTERNET MAKES US
4K Moving Image, 50mins, 2023.

A visual installation through five identities, each with different body types, genders, sexualities, hopes, desires and anxieties. Over fifty minutes, the digital figurative sculptures blink, breathe and twitch, slowly morphing between ideologies of how new media interferes with bodily perception and the construct of self. The visual installation builds from over five years of research from the Genetics Gym project (2016-21) and is part of a series of experiments through art, design, technology and consumer psychology entitled The Validation Junky (2014-).
