I am the proud product of immigrants. Immigrants raised me. My mother emphasized the importance of being bicultural, speaking Spanish in the home and English outside of the house.

My whole immediate family are immigrants and they shaped the way I see life. I am eternally grateful for their support in my dreams. I always strive to be the person my family did not have while growing up.

Immigrants are the forefront of this country and my family’s story is a true representation of that. They are so brave for leaving their homeland and learning a new language, culture, and working laborious jobs. I admire all of you.

Although I’ve only been to Chile once, I felt right at home. I will be back in Chile to see my family very soon because I want to continue to cherish every moment I have with them since we live so far away.🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱

I am deeply proud of my Mexican heritage. It is a blessing I carry within me, forever engraved in my DNA. Mexico’s culture, traditions, and spirit are truly magical. There is a warmth, vibrancy, and soul to it that words can hardly describe. I am grateful for my family’s courage and sacrifice to immigrate to the United States. Though they now have a life here, they have brought pieces of that magic with them. They remind me how far we have come, and how far we’ll go. My family inspires me to take a chance, even if it may be scary.

Mexico, I miss you dearly, I hope to see you soon.

& to my Immigrant family members, I love you more than you will ever know.

Mi familia me inspira a superarme aunque dé miedo.

Hi Everyone!

My name is Stephanie, I go by Steph for short.

I’m a proud Mexican-American and @marquetteu graduate with a B.S. in Exercise Physiology. I’ve always loved performing and exploring new dance styles. In 2019, I co-choreographed the Latin segment for the @mubayanihan (BSO) culture show @bsocultural and later coached cheerleading with the Bartlett Cheerleading Association @bcajrhawks for two years.

I’m passionate about inspiring the next generation to build discipline and become well-rounded individuals.

Favorite Dance Style: Bachata

Fun Fact: I served on @marquettelaso’s eboard as public relations and as president at my time at Marquette. LASO helped gain more confidence as a latina and helped me make so many friendships I still carry.

Hello, I’m Alannis!

I’m a first-generation Chilean-American and proud NIU graduate currently pursuing my Masters in Public Administration. While my academic and professional path is rooted in public service, dance has always been one of my deepest passions.

I began my journey in hip-hop through workshop classes in Chicago and local studios in my community. My first experience choreographing was in high school for the Organization of Latin American Students (OLAS) annual culture show. @sehsolas Since then, I’ve taken on multiple leadership roles in the dance world—most notably serving as captain and co-director of Tumbao, NIU’s Latin dance team. @tumbaoniu

My favorite style of dance is hip-hop/reggaeton! One of the things I love most is teaching dance to beginners and watching them fall in love with the art form. Seeing others build confidence and joy through movement is what continues to inspire me as a dancer and choreographer.

Fun Fact: The reason I’m involved in public service is because of my time on the EBoard of @olasecc where I served as the Marketing Officer and then President. OLAS has helped me develop culturally and professionally.

Hola, soy Alannis!
