Thanks for being part of the family and showing up for our shrimpers this year at Shrimp Fest! All day we feasted on local shrimp, learned how to help from industry leaders, and celebrated Louisiana culture. Together we raised funds to help Louisiana shrimpers face the challenges of a globalized industrial economy that threatens our culture and way of life. @climateculture_nola is a proud sponsor of @lashrimpfestival , an event that brings together master naturalist musicians like @sunpiebarnes with craftsmen like @nolaprints , photographers like @phototypeproductions and chefs like @bar_beau_q and @gretassushi . Together we celebrate our local culture, and support our local shrimpers! Thanks @shrimp_aid for protecting our local seafood industry. #climateculturenola #greenteamneworleans #livingwithwater #eatlocal #shrimp

We had a shrimp-tastic time at Louisiana Shrimp Fest yesterday🦐

The afternoon was packed with live music, a shrimp peel-and-eat contest, and meaningful discussion about the challenges facing shrimping communities and opportunities ahead.

At The Water Institute table, people tested their shrimp-knowledge with a game of Trivia or Treat—did you know that shrimp can swim backwards? We also handed out shrimp life-cycle stickers and shared some of the Community Resilience Center’s work to support coastal communities.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to hear about our work and learn some shrimp facts, and to @lashrimpfestival for putting on a wonderful event benefitting regional fishing communities!

If you love eating local, then you love @lashrimpfestival and @shrimp_aid , where a network of shrimpers, fisherman, musicians, and advocates come together to protect our local seafood industry at @broadsidenola every year! Between imported farmed seafood and unregulated habitat pollution- one of our most treasured cultural pillars here in Louisiana is under threat. Round 1 wrap up of @lashrimpfestival, a festival brings together world class musicians, some of New Orleans best seafood chefs, shrimpers, policy makers, and community members to celebrate a core tenant of Louisiana heritage while discussing the future of food sovereignty for the state of Louisiana. Packed with purpose, education, fun, and phenomenal food, @lashrimpfestival wraps up a third successful year at @broadsidenola, with all proceeds going to @shrimp_aid to support fair seafood policy.

Stop. Like seriously-stop buying imported shrimp. 🦐 Read labels. Ask questions. Imports are killing communities I love. If you still don’t care about that… do you care about your health? Antibiotic resistance. Minimal testing. Inhumane conditions. If you still buy imports… that is what you are supporting.
If you know of local businesses that buy from local fishermen… drop it in the comments. Let’s support them. Also, if you know of places still buying imports. Let’s change their minds on where they are purchasing their products. Until then they will not get my business and hopefully not yours. If they want to support a virus in our community- let them dig their own grave. I’ve had enough of seeing and hearing horror stories of where this is heading. #saveourshrimpers #buylocal #louisianafishing #shrimp

🦐 It's shrimply the best day of the year!🦐

The Community Resilience Center at The Water Institute is excited to return to the 2026 Louisiana Shrimp Festival this Sunday, October 18, at The Broadside in New Orleans!

Stop by our table to say hello, play Trivia or Treat, and learn how our scientists partner with coastal communities to better understand and address the environmental, social, and economic challenges facing shrimpers, crabbers, oyster harvesters, and others who depend on Louisiana's working coast.

Chef Dana in studio with me today to bring light to the Louisiana Shrimp Festival at the Broadside this Sunday. Come pass a good time with us 🦐 Weather is cool, I love it - but my interest in weather all started with a curiosity in our coastal ecosystems. If they are alive and well… WE are alive and well.

I’ll always fight to protect our/ (my) fishing families ❤️ #SHOPLOCAL @broadsidenola @lashrimpfestival @shrimp_aid @wgno

There’s a festival in New Orleans that DNA tests the shrimp, and it has to. Louisiana law says restaurants must tell you when their shrimp is imported, and 919 got cited for not doing it in 2025. But the weekend starts Friday: halal BBQ plates Friday and Saturday 2 to 7 at Masjidur Rahim, supporting the Muslim Reentry Initiative. Saturday, the March for Palestine at Congo Square at 6:30, then the Umrah fundraiser vendor market in Gretna until 10:30. Sunday, the Louisiana Shrimp Festival at The Broadside, with nine New Orleans restaurants serving wild caught Gulf shrimp. Eat local. Know your shrimp.

Restaurants are supposed to tell you when shrimp is imported. 919 didn’t.

Three ways to check your plate before you order.

Halal BBQ plates, $15, Friday and Saturday 2 to 7 at Masjidur Rahim. Can’t make it? Sponsor a plate by contacting @muslim_reentry_initiative for someone in need.

The March for Palestine moved to this Saturday, 6:30 PM at Congo Square. Bring your people. Check @nola4palestine for updates

After the march, the vendor market in Gretna is open until 10:30, all for an Umrah fundraiser.

Sunday at @broadsidenola . Nine restaurants, all Gulf shrimp. @lashrimpfestival

Every plate you buy either supports the boats or doesn’t.

BBQ, march and market Saturday. Shrimp Fest Sunday.
