(Last) Last Summer Dance art piece reveal! As the festival grounds will open tonight at 5 pm, so will its last art exhibition! I'm happy to be part of it once more. The topic is "Last Summer Dance Festival means for me..."

This is my accompanying descriptive text:
"What Last Summer Dance Festival means to me… Since I am anything but the most avid festival-admirer or goer (sensory overload much), I’ve always cherished this particular event as something beautiful and peaceful created by my friends; be it cherished whilst enjoying a bite to eat or a terrific homemade hugo-cocktail, taking part in this very exhibition or enjoying the music on stage that I did actually not dislike (also a nit-picky music-listener, who would have thought). That being said, I don’t like festivals. But I LOVED the Last Summer Dance Festival. It will be missed."

My aim was to capture the buzzing and colourfulness of the event. The first slide is the festival version running in 3 frames per sec., whereas the second one runs in 4/sec. I personally prefer the 4/sec.-version, but my, umm, "market research" (asking my friends and family what works better for them haha) showed that there is a stronger preference for the slower one, as it seems less overwhelming and offers more time to look at the individual frames. And of course I've also posted the individual frames. Enjoy. 😎

Today, the Last Summer Dance festival opens its doors for the final time. Ten years have passed since the first edition of what is arguably the biggest project of my life.

In 2020, when we canceled the festival due to you-know-what, I wrote: "Our festival has always been built around forming connections, not social distancing; encouraging meeting new people, not just staying with your group of peers; a weekend full of discoveries and wandering around, not sitting around a bench waiting to consume." I think this is the best description I could come up with.

Year after year, people came to share their music, their art, their workshops or simply lend their hand for a couple of hours and created something magical: we never were the biggest, fanciest or hippest festival, but I believe that we truly created a festival that was dear to many and different to what else there was in Luxembourg.

The festival gave me an excuse to see my highschool friends every summer; I met, hosted and jammed with people from Canada, Romania, Kuwait, and so many other places, I would have never had the chance to get to know. We have funny, sad, happy anecdotes that could fill entire nights.

Organising a festival was always stressful, never easy, but I really had some of the best days of my life.

This is the first year I did the band booking by myself, so in a way it is also the most personal one. As I started the festival at the age of 20, it also feels like saying goodbye to my twenties.

If you can, please join us for a very last summer dance! Thank you for believing in our festival all these years.

PS: Simon Okult is the best beer in the world and we have it on tap!
PPS: If you need a booker for your event, rumour has it I am available again.

Finally able to post an actual photograph of my @lastsummerdance poster that is not made on a mockup-template. 😀 Although I really loved the pasted aesthetic. 🔥 Here it can be seen chilling on a wall in the staircase at Bâtiment 4 in Esch.
