Valentine’s Day is my Birthday. I don’t know what this day is like for other’s. I will never know. But I hope it’s a day that helps you remember that you are loved and to love, even if it’s just for yourself. You see this pic? Looks like a birthday girl that’s just turning up, right? The prolific photog @stellamagloire took this. Later we spoke about capturing a still frame of life and not truly knowing what’s behind a snap. What’s the story? Well here it is… A year ago the heart of my dear sister @mscynna stopped as we were getting ready for my birthday dinner. Instead of a party we spent the night in the hospital crying and praying. That day was the last time I heard her voice. In May, our amazing Auntie Hazel Bridgeman, the woman who most in our family inherited the ability to dance for joy on any occasion, died suddenly of cancer. Later, from stress and grief I developed a severe infection in my jaw that almost went to my brain. I spent @originaldjfranchise birthday in the same hospital as my girl did. To this day the lower left side of my face is numb but I’m ok. In July I took an emergency trip to Vancouver to pack up my Mom who was battling cancer and drive her for 4 days all the way to ATL. We spent the next few months in and out of hospitals fighting for her life. I’ve never been able to share this before but my beautiful Mother, the love of my life, MY VALENTINE went to meet God and our Ancestors on October 31st, 2023. I’m sorry to those who are finding out this way but even as I type…it’s hard. So what you’re seeing is not just a birthday turn up. You’re seeing a woman dragged out of hell so many times she is no longer afraid of fire. She IS the fire. 🔥 It’s me reclaiming my life on the day I was born. It’s me pointing to the Angels the Most High has bestowed me with promising that I will LIVE and LOVE despite what would have destroyed most. More happened but I’m not ready to talk about that. But I’ll tell you this…one woman who heard the entire story said “my God! You were Job’d” (biblical reference). Like Job, I never cursed God and died. Love you still. #bornday #fire #newbeginnings
