Boston qualifying times are out. And according to some, women have it easier 👀

Why? Because women get 30 extra minutes.

But more time doesn’t automatically mean more advantage.

Men and women don’t have the same physiological performance ceiling in endurance sport. At elite level, men are typically around 10 to 12% faster.

And when researchers analysed 3.2 million marathon performances, men and women under the age of 60 qualified for Boston at about the same rate.

From 60+ the picture actually shifts the other way: men qualify at higher rates and the gap grows with age. So looking at the clock alone misses the point.

Different physiology. Different times. Still a serious standard.

And if you’re a woman who’s qualified for Boston… you trained for it, you hit the standard, YOU EARNED IT.

Marathon number 12 ✅

5 of the 8/9 Majors completed ✅

Not quite the time I had in mind when I started this training block, but considering I missed the final 5 weeks of training with Achilles tendinopathy, and wasn’t even sure I’d make it to the start line, I’ll take it!

Made it to around 17 miles before the lack of fitness started to show. From there, the strategy changed to run/walk… although, if I’m being completely honest, it was mainly walk, high fiving kids and eating jelly babies 😂

Even the sight of the Brandenburg Gate and that finish line couldn’t convince the legs to produce one last non-stop effort!
(The finishing stretch photos will be shocking!)🫣

Crawled over the line in 4:36:44 🫠

Not the prettiest marathon, but Marathon #12 is in the bag. Sometimes getting to the finish is the win.

And with that… back into retirement for another 12 months! 😂🏃‍♂️

Now to celebrate our 20th anniversary with @laud_runs

Wasn’t really sure how this one was going to feel as I’ve got a bit of a cold at the moment.

There were a few coughs before, after and during the swim 😆 but actually, once I got going, I didn’t feel too bad!

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻:
🏊‍♀️ 200m warm-up
🏊‍♀️ 4 × 100m pull buoy
🏊‍♀️ 800m continuous
🏊‍♀️ 3 × 50m faster
🏊‍♀️ 200m cool-down

𝗧𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹: 𝟭,𝟳𝟱𝟬𝗺

Pretty pleased with that considering I wasn’t sure how the cold was going to play out.

🥪 𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗺 𝘀𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗸: Lunchbox Soreen and a chocolate rice cake

☕️ 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗺 𝘀𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗸: Coffee and bagels with Dairylea (after discovering she doesn’t like yogurts, I am going to assume @laud_runs hates Dairylea)

Because apparently my body now associates swimming with immediately needing to eat everything afterwards. 😂 I never eat this much when marathon training!!!

(Shell necklace for @garathonn )

Club track session tonight.

I did actually check with @laud_runs that she hadn’t made a mistake when she said 8 × 1200m with 90 seconds recovery. 😂

Turns out she hadn’t.

Thankfully, each 1200m was broken down into:

🏃🏻‍♀️ 400m @ half marathon pace
🏃🏻‍♀️ 400m @ 10k pace
🏃🏻‍♀️ 400m @ 5k pace

Which sounded much more manageable…

I spent most of the session hanging off the back of my group, making all sorts of ridiculous noises and questioning my life choices.

But… great session. Really tough, but really enjoyed it.

@mizunouk Wave Rebellion Pro 🖤🤍

And I’m now seriously considering getting a pair of the Pro 3s… or maybe I should get with the times and try their new models?

Because apparently I need more running shoes. 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

What the hell just happened?! 😳

Kept this race a secret to take the pressure off…

Official time: 46:57.

Didn’t see that coming.

15th in my age category.

Sometimes you just have to trust the process. 🖤

With @lea__nne72runs as a part of team for Welsh Castles Relay 2026 Stage 19 ✔️🏰🏃‍♂️

Some people might call it rolling… I call it hilly! 😂⛰️🔥

A tough but enjoyable leg of the Welsh Castle Relay. Beautiful Welsh scenery 🌿, challenging climbs 📈, great teamwork 🤝, and plenty of miles in the legs 🦵.

Proud to be part of such an amazing team @lliswerryrunners and huge thanks to Les Croupiers @lescroupiersrc Running Club for the fantastic organisation 👏
Thanks to the Capitan @laud_runs and @the_pb_hunter for the organisation. Top team support on the course @lliswerryrunners 🥇 🌟 Thanks @rich.cost3llo for the pic!
Who else loves a “rolling” route that feels more like a mountain stage? 😅⛰️

Safari Day 3.
All day drive today to visit the eastern part of the reserve!
It was well worth it as we got to see a cheetah and her 4 cubs.
Also along the way we came across, White and Black Rhinos, Giraffes, Buffalo, Springboks, Klipspringers, Kudu, Gemsbok, Vervet Monkeys, Baboons, Ostriches.

The spiders made going for a wild wee interesting!!

Safari Day 2. Afternoon drive.
More elephants causing a traffic jam I’d take any day. Then an unforgettable moment, our ranger has known these cheetahs since birth and they are part of a conservation program which will see them move on to a different reserve. Being metres away from these beautiful cats was amazing.
Then to end the day we caught up with the lion just about to head out on his night patrol.🇿🇦

Safari Day 2. am drive.
The lioness were a bit shy unlike the lion who gladly showed us everything as he lay in the sunshine, add to that a confident giraffe, this made for a great morning.

Spot of lunch and chill before the afternoon drive.

Last overseas trip of the year!
A return visit to NYC 🗽🇺🇸🍎
Love this place, the hustle and bustle, the sights, the sounds and the smells!!
Catching Co-vid on the 2nd day wasn’t part of the plan but still had a great time and more importantly @laud_runs had a great marathon.
Passports have been safely secured in the bedside drawers ready for our 2026 whirlwind adventures!
