CONTROL THE BARREL FIRST

I’m all for having more leverage. But if you’re not controlling that leverage, then what’s the point?

With Charlie, we choked up a little and worked on organizing his grip. The goal was to give him better control of the barrel and put him in a position to deliver it forward through the baseball.

He kept getting jammed on the inside pitch. We wanted him to get the barrel there without fighting his grip or forcing the move. Get organized early, hold that grip, then turn and deliver the barrel.

CUES:
✔️ Dominate the barrel
✔️ Get the grip organized
✔️ Deliver it forward through contact

Save this for your next round in the cage.

STOP HOOKING EVERYTHING.

Adam’s first few swings were hooking to the pull side. We were working against a closed-angle machine, giving him a tighter space to work in as a lefty and less room for error.

The feel was to punch forward and get extended through the baseball. For Adam, that meant giving the move more forward direction instead of letting everything work around to the pull side.

CUES:
✔️ Win post-contact direction
Punch forward
✔️ Get extended through the baseball
✔️ Work through the middle

Save this cue for your next cage session.

HOLD THE GROUND ALL THE WAY THROUGH YOUR MOVE.

With Cole, we worked on using the ground, landing anchored, and keeping the lower half strong as he turned and ripped across. Give yourself something to push and turn against, then hold it all the way through contact. That’s what lets you turn hard and let the barrel go without pulling yourself off your base.

CUES:
✔️ Push into the ground
✔️ Land anchored
✔️ Hold the ground all the way through your move
✔️ Hold your posture through the finish

Get into a strong position to attack. Then keep using the ground as you go hit.

THE SETUP MATTERS.

Every move you make before you get ready to attack the ball has a consequence. + or -.

With Adam, we experimented with starting from a slightly narrower position. He doesn’t use much of a stride, so we weren’t trying to add one. We were trying to give him a better set up and a little more room to organize himself into a strong position to attack.

The goal isn’t to lessen the intent. It’s to make the move simpler and more repeatable.

Get into a good position early.
Create good spacing.
Give the hands a clear lane.
Then let everything work forward through the baseball.

When the setup puts you in the right position, the swing feels EFFORTLESS and SIMPLE.

CUES:
✔️ Repeat the set up
✔️ Eliminate unnecessary movement
✔️ Create spacing before you attack
✔️ Get organized into a strong launch position
✔️ Deliver the barrel forward
✔️ Hold post-contact direction through the middle
✔️ Stay through the baseball as long as possible

We’re not chasing a perfect stance.

We’re finding the setup that gives this hitter the best chance to make his best move.

Love seeing Connor start to put things together. Better direction, cleaner barrel delivery, and some really good adjustments throughout the session.

This is what putting in the work looks like. 🎯⚾️

DELIVER THE BARREL FORWARD

Direction matters.

A hitter can be on time, in a good position, and still lose the barrel too quickly if it starts working around the baseball instead of continuing forward through it.

The goal here was simple: deliver the barrel more through the middle, hold direction longer, and let the barrel keep working through contact instead of immediately hooking across the zone.

When the direction cleans up, the contact usually cleans up with it.

CUES:
✔️ Deliver the barrel forward
✔️ Hold direction through the middle
✔️ Turn hard without spinning off the baseball
✔️ Keep the barrel working through contact
✔️ Strong stick and hold the finish
✔️ Let the contact point dictate the direction
✔️ Through the baseball, not around it

Small adjustment. Completely different ball flight.

48 minutes.

Find the adjustment. Build the feel. Let the hitter own it.

Most hitters try to fix the swing. Sometimes the problem is in the setup before the swing even starts.

That was the adjustment with Adam here.

We weren’t trying to change the way he attacks the baseball. We were cleaning up the setup so the move that followed gave his hands a clear path to the ball.

Create space early. Hold the right angles. Move away from the hands and stretch the cage without letting the hands disappear behind the head or wrap too far around the body.

The goal is to create stretch without losing the path to the baseball.

One simple feel we used was keeping his hands where the pitcher could still see them.

Then once he landed, there was nothing extra to find or unwrap.

He could just turn hard and go hit.

Watch the swings after the adjustment.

Same intent. Cleaner setup. Good space. Clearer path. Harder contact.

Before you start changing what happens at contact, ask yourself:

Did the setup and the move into landing actually leave your hands a clear path to go hit?

You’ve been asking. It’s finally here. 🇩🇴⚾️

Dominican Republic 2027 is officially happening!

This trip has become something I look forward to every single year. There’s really nothing like watching a new group of kids experience the DR for the first time.

The baseball is incredible, but it’s the people, the culture, the communities, the relationships, and all the moments away from the field that make this trip so special.

Every year I come home incredibly grateful to be a part of it, and really proud of what these trips have become.

And this one means even more. 2027 marks 10 years of Global Baseball Adventures. 🇩🇴❤️
