Go behind the scenes with us at our pick up day for @garagesale_film a few weeks ago! We are trying to get the lighting right here to match our new shots with original footage. Add a haze machine for a mystical vibe and you get even more complication! Luckily @laurajansendp is a pro and the new footage matches the original almost perfectly - you can’t tell in the new cut what’s new and what’s original. For mystery adventure film GARAGE SALE, we were looking for an image that felt nostalgic, warm and slightly surreal. When discussing the vision with DP @laurajansendp , I referenced fantastical films with elevated visuals like JOJO RABBIT and classics like ET.

To achieve this, Laura paired the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55 with Atlas Mercury anamorphic lenses, using the camera’s anamorphic recording format.

“The Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55 proved to be the perfect fit for this warm-spirted, cinematic story and gave it the classic, filmic look we desired. The 1.5x desqueeze brought our image close to the 2:1 final aspect ratio, requiring only about a 5% crop from each side. I found myself using the variable ND dial on the top handle frequently during exterior scenes; when cloud cover shifted, I could ride the ND and maintain the exposure I wanted without interrupting the shot. The camera’s small form factor made operating on an EasyRig feel seamless & allowed me to stay mobile throughout the day. The Mercurys gave us the texture, flares, and subtle imperfections that pushed the image into that dreamlike space, while the ETERNA 55 made it easy to make adjustments quickly so we could focus on the storytelling.” — DP @laurajansendp
