Why are we telling the story of surviving 9/11 NOW?

It took 25 years for playwright @lauraleebotsacos to be ready to tell this story. She was there that morning. She watched, she witnessed, and when it was over she could not say why she was spared, only that she did not make it out alone.

TUESDAY is her way of saying thanks.

On September 11th, 2001 people who boarded their flights were all going somewhere. Going home, going to work, going to see someone they loved. Little did they know it would be their last flight. That ordinary Tuesday changed the world.

If you grew up in the Bronx in the ’70s, you KNOW. ❤️

Johnny pumps were our waterparks. The streets were our playgrounds. Hip-hop was being born on our blocks. Stick ball united us all. Our mothers didn’t text us to come home, they screamed our FULL government names out the window! 😂

It was a time before cell phones, before social media, when community was everything and the whole neighborhood felt like family.

Those streets, those people, those memories shaped who I became.

And then came a Tuesday that changed everything.

TUESDAY is my story of growing up in the Bronx, finding my way in New York City, and surviving September 11th.

Join me November 21 at Theatre Row as part of the United Solo Festival.

25 years later, everyone remember exactly where they were on that Tuesday, September 11th.

Every Tuesday leading up to the world premiere of Tuesday at @unitedsolo on November 21, I'll be asking folks one simple question:

'Where were you on that Tuesday September 11th?'

We all have a memory, a place, a moment when the world stopped. This is a story for all of us.

It didn't matter what you looked like. What you were wearing. What your gender was. Who you genuflected to. The only thing that mattered is that somebody was gonna help you.

That's how New York showed up on 9/11. Playwright @lauraleebotsacos was there, and twenty-five years later she still believes this city would do it all again.

Do you?

TUESDAY, her one-woman play about growing up in the Bronx and surviving 9/11, premieres November 21 at Theatre Row as part of the United Solo Festival. Tickets at the link in bio.

Where were you on that Tuesday, September 11th?

As we rehearse the play 'Tuesday,' we’re talking with New Yorkers from all backgrounds and asking one simple question: Where were you on September 11th?

We all have a story. We were all changed by that day in different ways. And 25 years later, there are still questions we’re asking, memories we carry, and stories that deserve to be heard.

Where were you on that Tuesday?

We asked New Yorkers from different backgrounds, religions, races, ethnicities and identities one simple question:

How do you think the world has changed in the 25 years since 9/11?

There is no black-and-white answer. There never could be.

But 25 years later, it leaves us wanting one commonality...connection.

Come see 'Tuesday' an original 1 woman show about surviving 9/11 and what that day revealed about who we are when everything else falls away, because how many Tuesdays do any of us have left?

25 years later, and somehow it still stings.

It was a beautiful day.
The weather was perfect.
It was a Tuesday we would never forget.

I haven’t been able to bring myself back downtown since that Tuesday. There are some places that hold so much memory, it takes time to return.

But I will.

And when I do, I’ll take you with me.

This is Tuesday.

Today is playwright @lauraleebotsacos birthday!

"When I was writing Tuesday, I remember having this strange realization: I was born on a Tuesday.
And immediately, I thought of that childhood nursery rhyme:

“Tuesday’s child is full of grace.”

Today is September 29th. My birthday.
And this year, it falls on a Tuesday.
There’s something about that that feels beautifully full circle.

I was born on a Tuesday.
I wrote a one-woman show called Tuesday.
And in just a few weeks, I’ll step onto a New York stage to premiere it.

And then there’s one more little coincidence I can’t help but notice…
My birthday is 9/29.
2 + 9 = 11.
9/11.

Maybe it’s coincidence. Maybe it’s God’s timing. Maybe sometimes life has a way of quietly connecting the dots long before we understand what they mean.

So on this Tuesday, my birthday, I’m incredibly grateful for every Tuesday that brought me here, and deeply grateful to every single person who has supported me, encouraged me, believed in me, and walked beside me on this journey. I don’t take any of it for granted.

Today, more than ever, I’m reminded how precious the Tuesdays behind us have been…and how precious the Tuesdays still ahead of us are."
