This weekend Laila flew over to Brisbane by herself to compete at the QLD Golden Gloves.

I’m not going to lie, my heart was racing putting her on that plane alone. Meanwhile she was completely unfazed. She grabbed her bag & strode to the plane with so much confidence, like flying interstate solo was just a normal everyday occurrence. Meanwhile Mum was trying to hold it together & Dad was tracking the flight the whole way until she was safely back in his arms.

Then it was time to do what she went there for…BOX!

The Golden Gloves is a massive event, with 3 rings running, people everywhere & a huge atmosphere. You could see the nerves were there as she stepped into the ring for her 1st fight.

In the 1st round, she boxed well but got caught with 1 clean shot that saw the referee give her an 8-count. She stayed composed, listened to her corner and stuck to the game plan.
2nd round she had found her feet & her distance, moving well & making it really difficult for her opponent to touch her.
3rd round you could see her confidence growing. She settled right in, backed herself & finished the fight strong.
After 3x1.5min rounds, her hand was raised in victory!

Special thanks to Gemma for jumping into the corner with Danny. Having a female in her corner helped make things feel a little more normal for Laila, while you also reminded Danny to breathe 😂 It just hits that little bit differently when you’re cornering your own daughter.

Of course we’re incredibly proud of the win, but I think we’re even more proud of everything this trip gave her beyond the result.

🌟The courage to get on that plane alone.
🌟The confidence to step into the ring at such a massive event.
🌟The composure to recover when things didn’t go perfectly.
🌟The belief in herself to keep going and finish stronger.

There are wins that come with medals & raised hands & then there are the wins that come from growing, learning & proving to yourself just how capable you really are.

We’re sure this is only the beginning of your own boxing journey & we can’t wait to see where it takes you.

So proud of all the wins & the lessons this trip has given you.

Seriously kid…STOP GROWING UP SO FAST!
