May 10, 2025. A day to remember.
I graduated Summa Cum Laude (GPA 3.92) from @norfolkstateuniversity.
2 jobs.
My own business.
Honors, awards, accolades.
But my greatest accomplishment?
I brought my family together.

I grew up with my mom and aunt. My father left when I was 2.
In 2017, I found him—and my brother—for 97 cents.
Left a voicemail:
"Hey, I'm looking for Larry Barrett. I was his youngest daughter… but now I'm Dexter."

That Saturday:
"Hello, this is Larry Barrett. I'm looking for Dexter?"
Life. Changed.

I had BOTH my parents at graduation.
My mom. My dad. My aunt.
My stepmom, brother, and sister-in-law.
Blood + blessings.
Genes + gratitude.
Love + laughter.

They flew. They drove.
They showed up.
Hip surgery at 5am? Still made the trip.
Front row? Cheering me on.

Chosen family pulled up too.
Ezra threw me a party.
Klay kept the family vibing.
Frat brothers, mentors, friends—all there.

The best gift?
Being seen.
Being loved.
Being surrounded.

As a kid, I wished on stars for a brother.
Prayed to finish the family tree.
Longed for a legacy of love.

I walked across that stage
Neck heavy with 6 medals, 7 cords, 8 stoles
Trans stole front & center
We will NOT be erased.

Mama Lex, I wore your ring.
You, Jayden, and the ancestors—right behind the stage.
Smiling. Watching your harvest bloom.

The CEO of Urban League stood beside me.
My job, my coworkers, my community—held me up.

This isn’t just a graduation post.
It’s a testimony.
I am my family’s greatest dream come true.
I am the healing.
I am the change.

I’m not a misfit. I’m a missed fit.
Now? I’m pouring into me.
When my cup runneth over, others are blessed—
but now, I’m sipping mine first.

Graduation is a door.
An exit & an entrance.
A closing. A becoming.
And this? This is just the beginning.
