My first woodworking project is complete! 🪵 🪚🗜️ Nine months of learning, failing, fixing, refining. I lost a toenail and found a passion. It all started with a class at @lawoodshop (sign up, I need fellow sawdust slingers!). Thank you teachers Todd & Cam for guiding me through this process. Credit to @jamiewolfond whose jigsaw shelf design inspired my first independent study project. 🧩

I think one of the best things you can be in this life is interested. I hope we never become so consumed by our routines that we forget how much there is to be fascinated by. There’s so much beauty around us So much we haven’t learned So many rooms we haven’t walked into People we have yet to meet & ideas we haven’t considered… Life feels a little more expansive when we stay curious about it🥰🥂#staycurious #bringbackchalant #LADesignWeekend #staygorgeous 💋

@ladesignweekend 9.30.26 Some flickies and some pieces from Day 1 of LA Design Week/End. Seeing some beautiful pieces has given me inspiration and ideas of quality to strive for. Now some introspection 🙃 — I feel like I’m typically a pretty social person. I like talking to people, connecting, hearing their stories, small talk, deep talk, all of the like. But for some reason, exploring a new industry and being such a baby in it, my confidence feels so low and almost non-existent. I still chit-chatted with some people from the woodworking program at @cerritoscollegewoodworking, and had some conversations with new people, but overall I’m just not feeling too comfortable yet. It feels like I don’t belong yet; it feels like I’m still a wannabe and a poser. I know I’m slowly getting more & more busy with commissions and I’m working on getting my certificate for furniture making and furniture design. So I know I’m moving along on my path and I’ll feel a little more like I belong in the coming years, but right now I really feel small. But honestly, being uncomfortable like this could be a good thing. It’s all brand new, it’s all new people. To put into film industry terms, it’s like I’m a brand new unpaid PA, doing things for copy-credit-meal. I’ve got some personal local projects under my belt, but I haven’t cracked the real side of the industry yet. And the exciting part is, that I’m not there. Yet. I don’t think it’s the ever popular “imposter syndrome” everyone loves to talk about. I genuinely believe I’m a newborn infant and I’m experiencing so many new things for the first time and it’s overwhelming, but not in a destructive way. A little spooky, but not deterring. Idk, I like to wear my emotions on my sleeve and throw ‘em on here every once in a while between wood posts so here it is. Looking forward to coming back a year from now and reading this to see how much has changed. Maybe I’ll be a toddler by then. #woodworking #losangeles #furniture #design #fabrication

Back in May I took my first intro to woodworking class @lawoodshop! It was a great experience learning how to use all of the machinery safely & being a part of an all women cohort class #girlpower 🙌🏾. Here’s to trying new things and having fun being a beginner. Still haven’t used my cutting board just yet tho because it’s just too pretty 🥹😅😂! #woodshop #woodworking #diy ✨

This weekend, I got a chance to get back in a profesh woodshop by taking another superb class at @lawoodshop, this time to make a picture frame for a piece of my son’s art. It’s something I could’ve figured out on my own with about three months, lots of trips to buy more wood, and plenty of coarse language. But Todd and Cam at LA Woodshop made it easy and fun, and working in such a space (and pestering them with questions) was exceptional. Join me next time I go - let’s make some sawdust!
