London is my favorite city in the world, and possibly the only place where I genuinely don’t mind the weather.

I think what I love most about London is how happy I am doing absolutely nothing there. Give me a book, something good to eat, and a park to spend the afternoon in, and I couldn’t ask for much more. Some of my favorite days in London have been spent without a single plan (not counting a dinner reservation, of course).

But what makes me love the city even more is knowing how much of it I still haven’t discovered. No matter how often I return, there’s always another neighborhood to explore, somewhere new to eat, or a place I can’t believe I’d never come across before.

Of course, that’s just my way of experiencing London. There are countless others, and I suspect that however you choose to experience it, there’s a good chance it’ll become your favorite city too.

So this is my London in thirteen: a collection of favorite places, small obsessions, long lunches, and reasons I keep coming back.

See you next 13th.

@layla_w10 is one of my favorite places to start the morning in London. Between the freshly baked pastries, excellent coffee, and the bakers working right in front of you, it’s very easy to lose track of time. Arrive early for the best selection.

I could happily spend an entire day in Hampstead, wandering through its beautiful residential streets before settling somewhere on the Heath with a book and something to eat.

At over 600 pages, The Nix should keep you occupied through quite a few Tube journeys. It’s funny, clever, and full of complicated characters, which makes it excellent company when you’ve decided to cross London for a restaurant.

One of my favorite walks in East London, especially when there’s no particular rush to get anywhere. Make a stop at @donlonbooks along the way, where the selection of independent publications and art books makes leaving empty-handed rather difficult.

I <3 Mateo’s tiramisu @cornershop180 !!! It’s one of those desserts I’d happily bring home from London if transporting it weren’t such a logistical challenge. I’m still accepting suggestions for getting tiramisu through i
