"Hello, readers! My name is Layla Fallah. I am a Kurdish-Canadian author, artist, and aspiring literary agent. Born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, I left the rainy skies in search of something more, and currently dream up new stories in the Valley of the Sun, Arizona. When I’m not reading or editing manuscripts, you can find me planting seeds, painting Kurdistan, or collecting picture books from the public library.

Interning at Lee & Low is an absolute dream because they are truly committed to publishing books about everyone and for everyone. As the daughter of Kurdish refugees, my mother and I learned English by reading picture books together at our local library. And every week, I would return to the magical book building to search for a book that I could see myself in. Unfortunately, SWANA representation is still lacking, but I am so motivated by the mission-driven team here. I will never rest until every child can see themselves in the pages of a book!

Throughout this internship, I am eager to learn how to market effectively and amplify diverse titles, to hone my editorial eye, and most importantly, to fight against book bans! I am so thankful to have the support of Lee & Low + @weneeddiversebooks on this journey, and I hope to one day be in a position where I can build ladders, ramps, and bigger tables to make publishing more accessible to underrepresented folks." ✨RISING STARS IN KIDLIT COLLAB✨
The #RisingStarsinKidlit series continues and for the next several features we have a special #collaboration highlighting the talented mentees from @ebonylynnmudd and @kaileipewbooks #pbrisingstars Mentorship! Today we get to meet #kidlit author @laylabetweenthelines whose mentor in the program was @ebonylynnmudd herself! 🌟

Layla Fallah is a Kurdish-Canadian writer and recent graduate of Simon Fraser University, where she studied psychology and specialized in learning and developmental disabilities. Her written work is largely inspired by her experience as a daughter of immigrants and explores themes of found family, mental illness, and belonging. Layla hopes her stories will feel like a hug to anyone who has ever felt like they were “too much” or “not enough”. Apart from being published, her dream is to be in a position where she can uplift and amplify voices from traditionally marginalized backgrounds. Wherever she ends up, Layla hopes to combine her passion for mental health awareness, accessibility, and inclusivity, into the publishing industry.
Layla is currently seeking agent representation.

Since you guys liked the first one, I decided to do another 😊 This John Grisham book is one of the very few I've read only once and that's because it's harcover and really heavy to carry around. I'm lazy I know 😂😂

I absolutely loved the adaption of Me Before You! I, of course, read the book before the movie but I still think they did a pretty good job especially with the chosen actors. I recently picked up the second book (After You) and though I don't like having mixed editions I couldn't resist the sale for it 😂 AND I just found out yesterday that the third one is coming out next week 😲 from @theliteraryllama's post.

I actually went out of the house today and now my feet are sore... 😖 Today, I went to renew my passport and boy did it take a lot of queueing... 💤 The good thing was that I was able to complete the whole process today ✔️ so I'm just patiently waiting 😑 for my 10 year validity passport to arrive (it used to be 5 years only in PH🇵🇭). Banzai! 🙌 Going back to the quote above: this one seriously made me think of my tbr pile - shelf - library 😮 whichever's applicable to it by now... I seriously need to exercise some control 😤 How about your tbr guys? Any tips on how to conquer it... (P.S. I am now officially putting myself on a Book Buying Ban so apologies if you don't really see any new and upcoming titles on my feed for a while 😔 Hope I power through it 😁)
