Scrolling through old photos, I came across the very first Recess San Diego meet-up… almost 10 years ago to the day! Crazy how time flies. It got me thinking about some lessons I’ve picked up along the way:

• Start before you’re ready — momentum shows you the next step.
• Keep moving — clarity comes in motion.
• Permission to fail — learning out loud is where growth lives.
• Reinvention is play too — change is an opportunity to experiment.
• Focus on connection — people crave presence, not perfection.
• Find your playground people — surround yourself with dreamers and doers.
• Lead with curiosity, not control — the best ideas come from exploration.
• It takes time — consistency beats overnight results.

💡 Which lesson resonates with you?

Today marks 3 years that I've been with SDX. From my 4th day on the job (1st picture) to today, I am so thankful for all of the connections I've made, young professionals I've helped, Board members that have supported & encouraged me and events I've coordinated. I'm looking forward to what's ahead for SDX! If you've been thinking about getting involved but don't know where to start, reach out to me at laurie@sandiegox.org. I'm here to help!
