14th year in the books! It was a rainy >> windy >> sunny day... in other words a spring race in the PNW. A big thank you to all our runners, walkers, sponsors, vendors, friends, patients, and of course our volunteers. Congrats to our colleague Devin winning the race at a blistering 16:32 into the wind on most of the run. The Eastlake Wolves had an outstanding day winning top 3 places men & women in the inaugural 10K portion of the event. The Cascade Stride team really outdid themselves this year helping bring back the Kirkland Shamrock Run into Downtown Kirkland. Ron Montague just keeps producing quality races at an amazing clip. Also a shout out to the team at Moss Bay Hall who provided a great home base for participants. Justin Andrews and the staff are picking right up where the Wild Rover left off bringing the bagpipes back.
See you all next year.

In 2015, I found myself at a crossroad! I was approaching 50, I wasn’t exercising consistently, I struggled to maintain a weight that felt comfortable, I lacked energy, and my joints were constantly aching. I had an epiphany that I was solely responsible for my current situation and if I wanted to change, it was up to me!

That day, I took the step! Looking back, I realize it was such a baby step… I committed to 10 minutes of exercise a day (YES, 10 minutes) and eating more fruits and vegetables.

Little did I know that that baby step would lead to habits that have lasted 9️⃣ years!
Today, I exercise an hour a day on most days, center my meals around fruits and vegetables, sleep 7 hours a night most nights, and at 57, I feel better than I did in my 30’s and 40’s.

Never underestimate the power of a step! Tiptoe if you must, but take the step.

We’ll be talking about ways to maintain or gain strength as you age as well as usable nutrition guidelines to support muscle and prevent the common, but not normal, muscle mass loss that frequently accompanies aging.

Muscle mass loss or sarcopenia can begin as early as age 40. And 30-50% of muscle mass can be lost between age 40-80.

The good news is that there are things you can do to preserve or even gain muscle mass as you age.

Sign-up for our FREE virtual lecture Older & Stronger: The connection between muscle mass & healthy aging by clicking the “sign up for older and stronger” link in my bio.
