A brief view into the world Curtis Kulig created through “STUDIO VISIT”—portraits, details of the works presented, and moments shared between friends.

Friendship is a practice. It lives in the details: the small gestures, passing glances, and shared histories that accumulate over time to form the bigger picture of both art and relationships.

Among these images is a moment from the Paris release of Curtis’s book “FRONT DOOR” at Dover Street Market, featuring an opening performance by Isaiah Barr. “STUDIO VISIT” celebrates the book’s U.S. release, bringing together a collection of artists and works connected to the world Curtis has built through friendship, creative exchange, and collaboration.

We’re excited to announce that “STUDIO VISIT” has been extended through August 29. With ten final days, we invite you to step inside, spend time with the details, and experience this beautiful union of art, memory, and friendship for yourself.

On view at The Hole, 86 Walker Street, NYC, through August 29.

CURTIS KULIG: “STUDIO VISIT” brings together new paintings by Curtis alongside a curated selection of works by the friends and artists who have shaped his life and practice over the years—offering a rare glimpse into the inner workings of a creative world few get to experience firsthand.

The exhibition is a counterpart to “FRONT DOOR”—Curtis’s newly released book documenting the community that moved through his Kenmare Street studio. Together, the two reveal just how multifaceted his practice is: painting, photography, writing, ephemera, and an archive built over time.

Relationships are the practice.

It’s hard to put this exhibition into words. To me, it feels like a home—built on a strong foundation, with very soundproof walls.

Grateful to Curtis for the trust and opportunity to help bring this world together, and to every artist for sharing a piece of their practice and history. Thank you to the team at The Hole for giving it a home.

Buy the book. See the show. Maybe take something away that opens another door.

🌸𝒓𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝑺𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒅𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒃𝒖𝒎𝒔🌸

A place where i can write what i want and how i want, whenever i want. If you know me, you know i don't follow rules, guidelines, instructions. Writing is a river that flows and i go wherever it goes. I turn in the assignment the day it's due at 11:59 p.m. i was born 1 minute after midnight and this is the natural rhythm of everything i give birth to.

Nature's rhythm over algorithms forever.

I'm not a part of any lit scene. i left New York in 2009 after living lifetimes in a matter of months. I live in a beach town at the edge of the world, floating above scenes, plugging in through the cosmos and the internet, conjuring up the spirits of ghosts, praying to my rock 'n roll poet gods to guide me...and they do.

When i came across New York Tyrant, Gian had already passed. i knew i had found the lit punks, the kind of people i roll with, the outsiders, the artists, the poets, the rebels, the revolutionaries. The hole in the wall with the best food that most people won't even enter. That's always where the magic lives.

I read every single tribute to Gian on MuuMuu House after his death and wept, laughed, smiled at the legacy of this wild man with a vision of writing, what writing was, what it could be if you hopped over the gates of the gatekeepers, ran like hell towards your dreams and took chances on people and yourself.

This led me to Sean Thor Conroe, who unknowingly became my professor of literature when i macro-dosed on his podcast back in 2023 and tuned innnnn. Listening. Observing. Studying.

In honour of everything i owe to both Gian's spirit and STC for inspiring me to take my writing more seriously and focus on my God-given talent, i finally read 𝙁𝙪𝙘𝙘𝙗𝙤𝙞 and wrote about it.
