Johns Creek High School hosted a Hispanic Parent Night for Hispanic families in our community, and I was honored to present alongside Assistant Principal, Valerie Moyer and Counselor & Department Chair, Nicole Taylor. I presented in Spanish so all of the families present could fully understand what was being shared in their native language.

Why does this matter?
Hispanic students are now 16% of Georgia’s K-12 students, well ahead of their 11% share of the state’s population.

Hispanic students graduate at about 82% (versus 87% overall), and the gap widens in college, where Hispanic students at four-year institutions graduate about 9 points behind their White non-Hispanic peers.

Hispanic students are about 12% of the student body at Johns Creek High Schools.

Families who understand how the system works, and who know what support exists, are the single biggest lever for closing these gaps.

We covered the resources available through school counseling and through iRise Careers to help students prepare for success in high school and beyond.

A few moments that warmed my heart:
💛 My kids served as greeters, handed out welcome gifts, and advanced our slides, learning by example and by doing.
💛 Graduates of last year’s Ready to Rise program joined us, a reminder of what’s possible when students get the right guidance early.
💛 Families of our graduates sharing their gratitude for the differences they see in their kids and what we are doing for them.
💛 Desire from parents at other high schools wanting the same programming available to their students.

Thank you to Mrs. Moyer, Ms. Taylor, and every family who joined us.

If you’d like to bring this conversation to your school or organization, message me.

iRise Careers serves the students of Johns Creek High School, one of the top high schools in @fultoncoschools County Schools in Georgia, as a community business partner all year. Through our specialized talent programming services, we teach "Ready to R.I.S.E." to high school students.

The numbers speak for themselves:
100% of students have a career goal
100% of students have a plan to achieve their career goal
100% of students feel that they are ready to rise in their career post program
100% decrease in discipline referrals
50% improvement in attendance rate
60% decrease in tardies
and more...

Those numbers matter because before the program, not one participant had a career goal or plan to achieve that goal. Now, they do. And more will too.

This month, the Johns Creek High School Counseling Department (aka Creek Counselors @creekcounselors) is hosting a Hispanic Parent Night with an interpreter on site to support the Hispanic community with resources for education, counseling, and careers. iRise Careers will be there as a resource to Hispanic families who are looking to engage in career readiness

I look forward to participating in this evening where we'll get to elevate, inspire, and empower together.
