🐸 NCAD 🐸
.
Yesterday I did an artist talk at NCAD, the college I started my BA in 21 years ago!!!!! WTF time has PASSED 😂
.
It was such an honour to be welcomed back by Taffina Flood to talk about my practice to the fine art students. When I was in my BA, and attended those seminars, I used to hope that one beautiful day I will be an artist and I will be the one up there talking, well....hey..  sometimes dreams comes through 💫✨⭐💫 how amazing is that!?!? It felt very very special to me.
.
So thanks to all the students for coming (on their lunch break!) and listening to my talk. I hope it was useful in some ways 🙏🙏🙏

When I walked in to the campus I was immediately struck by nostalgia to the max. The smell of NCAD! The ping pong table, the student union, the tables...it kinda looked the same. And all the super lovely and kind people working there as attendance, many still the same people. And ALL the amazing teachers too that are still there, like Taffina - the power house behind Core year (which was the best year in all fairness).
.
I LOVED studying at NCAD. The BA was such a magical time, doing art all day long, I just couldn't believe my luck! I remember standing in the cue to register on the first day and I was in absolute internal panic 😂 but four years of absolute bliss followed.

I worked my ass of in college, and I worked my ass of in the restaurant at night, I burnt the candle at two ends and totally burnt out and then got a little lost for a while. But when I came back in 2013 for my master's I was back on track. Absolutely loved Art in The Digital World, led so wonderfully by Leah Hilliard along with a super helpful crew in the media department.

Great memories and it all just came bubbling up. I got quite emotional. The whole day ended with me running to catch the train and there was Michelle 💖 standing with a present and a card for Locky from her mam. How sweet is that? We had a "When Harry met Sally" moment, gave each other four hugs and then I kept running. What a moment ❤️ what a day 💖 LIFE sometimes comes back around and this one was a good one 🩷🙏🩷

Here are some slides I took out from the presentation last minute....

@leahhilliard one of our regular attendees @twocuratorsand recently told us that ‘Over the last couple of years @eamonnmaxwell s generosity in sharing his knowledge of the art world and sense of humour has made me feel supported and BRAVE.’

I mean could there be a better endorsement for checking us out at one of our monthly sessions?

I am asolutely delighted to announce that I am one of the winners of Meath County Council’s Kathleen McKenna Award, 2021, alongside @fitzgibbonmargaret1 and @leahhilliard

This award will afford me the time and materials to create a series of prints and artist books to  commemorate Kathleen McKenna. As historical accuracy was clearly something which was  important to McKenna, the primary aim of this project will be to represent her legacy  accurately. Large-scale prints will represent different aspects of her life, such as her career with  the Irish Bulletin. These prints will have a green tone, referencing McKenna’s tam o shanter cap.  A series of artist books will document my visual and written research, and will combine a  variety of printmaking methods which will serve to reference the mimeograph process which. McKenna would have used. Mimeograph printing was a precursor to photocopying, and  involved preparing a plate using wax resists. I plan to use a combination of photocopying,  letterpress printing, and etching using wax. The work will be done at a small scale to  allow me to easily experiment and quickly create multiples. These actions of creating multiples of prints, and rolling plates through presses, will allow me to recreate the physical actions of  McKenna.

This award is supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the Decade of Centenaries 2012 - 2023 initiative.
