WHAT’S ON THIS WEEK

From live comedy and improvised music to Japanese psychedelic rock, blues, soul, rock ’n’ roll, rudity, jazz, death metal, Australian electro-thrash metal, and experimental electronic music.

Catch free events including Vitamin S and Public Service, an intimate seated midweek show with SJD, a late-night kanikani with Glasgow-based electronic artist KAVARI, and a Sunday market day featuring afternoon DJs and a live set from Model.

This week’s lineup features Japanese psych-rock legends Acid Mothers Temple, QBIPOC-led club night NYMPHO, Pocket Jazz Festival with Love Square and Hopetoun Brown and Australian electro-thrash metal outfit Nasty Insects.

Whether you’re after a laugh, a laid-back midweek show, a late night dance, or something loud, there’s something happening every night this week across Double Whammy, Whammy, and Public Bar.

Public Bar opens from 5 PM, with happy hour 5–7 PM. Drinks, music, and a covered outdoor courtyard!

But this is more than a celebration…it’s a whole weekend of culture, community, and joy, and we’ve got it all in this week’s Ubuntu Weekend Guide⭐️

Whether you’re setting the tone the night before with a bit of deephouse, or winding down after all the parties with a community panel on Black joy, this weekend is packed from start to finish with reasons to be outside🤩

This one’s for the culture. Let the shenanigans begin🥂

Leaping Tiger is the musical project of Auckland-born, London-based producer, songwriter, and performer Jacob Park. Blending experimental electronic production with emotionally driven songwriting, his work moves between club music, ambient textures, and alternative pop.

Part 1 💫 Last Thursday night we came together to celebrate the people shaping the future of Aotearoa.

From powerful stories to standing ovations, the 2026 @kiwibanknz New Zealander of the Year Awards Gala was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when people choose to care, to lead, and to give back.

Here are a few moments from a night we won’t forget! 💚

In partnership with Kirin Ichiban, Aotearoa was blessed with an exclusive listening experience with global vinyl DJ extraordinaire Gilles Peterson, hosted in the intimate atmospheres of Auckland’s Kemuri Hi-Fi vinyl bar basement.

Over the course of more than four decades, Gilles Peterson has clocked up one of the most impressive resumes in music, as a veteran radio broadcaster, DJ, record label founder, festival founder, and more.

At Kirin Ichiban’s Listening Room, each of these respective roles combined to create a one of a kind experience bringing a quintessential Gilles Peterson radio show to life. Stories were told, tunes were exchanged, records were spun, drinks were flowing, and class was in session 🍻📀
