Motivation is a feeling. It comes and goes.
Regulation is a skill. You can build it.

And on the days when motivation is zero — regulation is what gets you through.

That’s what I think about on Monday mornings as a public health professional, a mother, and a woman who has had to learn this the hard way.

What does your Monday actually look like today?
Not the aspirational version — the real one. Tell me in the comment 👇

A decade. One country. A thousand versions of myself.

Expat life is the most beautiful, disorienting, humbling thing I’ve ever done. Still doing it. Still learning.

Are you going through exhaustion, burnout, stress because of expat life challenges? Comment below.

Fighting exhaustion and starting your week can be challenging.

Remember this - Mondays don’t need to be conquered. They just need to be started. 🌿
One small thing. That’s your only job today.

The mental load is invisible. That’s exactly what makes it so exhausting. Which one of these hit hardest? Tell me in the comments. 💛

They told her to blend in.
She had other plans. 🌷
In a field of thousands — she stood in her colour. Unapologetic. Unhurried. Completely herself.
Don’t be afraid to stand out.
Don’t dim your colour because others haven’t found theirs yet.
You are not too much.
You are exactly right.

This is how real life self care looks.

The table wasn’t clean. The morning wasn’t perfect.
But I made myself something warm and nourishing anyway.
mushroom omelette + strawberry, orange & avocado juice + hot coffee. five quiet minutes before the day began. 🍓🍊🥑
As a public health professional I can tell you — nourishing yourself on a hard day isn’t indulgent. it’s necessary.
real self care doesn’t need an aesthetic. it just needs you to choose yourself anyway.

💾 save this for your next hard day.

Happy Monday from a tulip field that didn’t rush to bloom. 🌷
As a public health professional and a mother, I’ve spent years studying wellbeing — and the hardest lesson I keep relearning is this:
You cannot pour from empty.

This week, before you make your list, check in with yourself first. Not your tasks. Not your family’s needs. you.

save this for your hardest day this week.

👇 what’s one thing you’re giving yourself grace about this Monday?

The mental load of motherhood is a public health reality — not just a personal struggle. From newborn nights to raising teenagers, and even caring for grown children, mothers carry the invisible work of planning, remembering, worrying, and holding families together.

This constant cognitive and emotional labor affects sleep, stress, and overall wellbeing — yet it often goes unseen. Supporting mothers at every stage of life isn’t a luxury; it’s essential for healthier families and healthier communities. 🤍

Healing is when,
You need more quiet.
You cancel plans.
You feel less urgency to prove yourself.
Growth isn’t always loud.
Sometimes it’s choosing rest over performance.

If this feels familiar, save this.
Healing doesn’t have to look impressive to be real.

Self-care isn’t always aesthetic.
It’s not just routines, candles, or productivity hacks.
From a mental health perspective, real self-care reduces chronic stress — it protects your nervous system.
Sometimes self-care looks like:
• logging off
• saying no without guilt
• disappointing others
• doing less
Preventive mental health isn’t glamorous.
It’s consistent regulation.

Self-care is maintenance, not performance.

The strong friend becomes strong for a reason.
She learns to hold space for others.
To stay calm during chaos.
To carry emotions without showing her own.
Over time, people stop asking if she needs support — because she seems capable of handling everything.
But strength does not cancel the need for care.
If you are the one everyone leans on, this is your reminder:
You are allowed to be supported too.
Save this for the days you feel strong and tired at the same time 🤍

Welcome to my Monday Think-Through series.

Listening to myself is how self-care starts.
Self-care isn’t easy.
It’s choosing the hard thing.
It’s setting the boundary you’ve been avoiding.
Having the uncomfortable conversation.
Sitting with your emotions instead of numbing them. Letting go of what no longer fits.
Real self-care is about growth, not escape.
Take care of yourself this Monday, and always!
