“When you’re going for what you deserve, and you inadvertently, accidentally knock someone down, stop and pick them up.” Los Angeles Lead Public Defender Ricardo Garcia left our young people with a powerful reminder: there is nothing wrong with wanting to win — what matters is how you win. Bring the ambition. Bring the hunger. Push yourself to be the best. Go after what you deserve. But do it with respect. With sportsmanship. With kindness. And never become so focused on getting ahead that you forget to extend a hand to someone else. “Because when you were down, everyone here has been picking you up.” That is bigger than basketball. It’s about the kind of people we choose to become and the kind of community we build around one another. Thank you, Ricardo Garcia, for showing up for our young people and for closing out the day with a message we hope they carry far beyond the court. 🏀❤️ 🎥 @natvralhigh #Hoops4Justice #YouthJustice #Community #LosAngeles

🎒 SURVING OUR COMMUNITY, ONE BACKPACK AT A TIME The backpacks didn’t stop at the Rose Bowl. This summer, Neighborhood Survants partnered with organizations, schools, businesses, and community leaders across Altadena, Pasadena, and beyond to help put 6,000+ backpacks into the hands of students preparing for a new school year. From large-scale giveaways to smaller community distributions, every backpack represented a family supported, a student encouraged, and a community choosing to show up. This is what happens when we work together. One backpack. One student. One community at a time. ❤️ A huge thank you to every organization, donor, volunteer, and partner who helped make our Backpack Marathon possible. We SURV. We give. We keep showing up. #NeighborhoodSurvants #BackpackMarathon #SURVMoreGiveMore #BackToSchool #CommunityStrong NeighborsHelpingNeighbors Altadena Pasadena

Yesterday we shared the court with people who dedicate their lives to making the world a little better 🏀💕. The youth working toward being the best version of themselves and bringing their peers up with them. The programs and service providers who spend every waking hour serving the people who need them most. And the decision makers who use their power and position to pull up a seat for those who’ve never had one at the table. A special thank you to our team captains, @ib2_real, @reallyjohnjohn , and @get2_it00, and our honorary team members, @dol1canales and @rdg_lapubdef . Each of you embodies everything yesterday was meant to be about. None of it happens without the orgs and partners who made yesterday possible, and the teams who showed up on their day off to keep our community strong and united. Big shout out to RAMP, who took home the trophy. It was great seeing the young people on your team leave with big, proud smiles. They earned it. 📸 @natvralhigh Sponsors: @ramplosangeles @healingurbanbarrios @healingdialogueandaction @antirecidivismcoalition @collaborationovercontradiction @calstatela Thank you so much to @htluckybs for Mc’ing and making it all possible ♥️

Faculty and staff from Loyola High School, Verbum Dei Jesuit High School, Homeboy Learning Works, and our community at Dolores Mission came together for a meaningful day of faith formation, reflection, and shared learning. Together, we explored the lives and witness of the saints, especially our patron St. Ignatius, reflected on the tradition of Jesuit education, and discussed how we can best share these important parts of our faith with the young people we serve. 🙏🏽 It was a beautiful opportunity to learn from one another, deepen our own faith, and reflect on how we can continue forming students who are people for and with others. 💙 #JesuitEducation #FaithFormation #IgnatianSpirituality #amdg

Our Homeboy Youth Center had 3 high school seniors from @learningwks participate in a state-wide leadership conference in Sacramento, hosted by @clylp. Our young scholars had the opportunity to learn first hand about the legislative process, meet with leaders in government and learn the power of their own voice and collective power. At the capital, they participated in a mock senate hearing on legislation SB 972 (senate bill that decriminalized sidewalk food vending), AB 436 (a proposed state law that ends lowrider cruising bans) and AB 1780 . Their participation earned them recognition from @senatorsrp 🫶🏽 Please join us in congratulating these incredible young scholars who are taking an active role in making positive changes for their community. #youngscholar #lowriding #streetvendor

What an incredible 20-week journey! 🏀💯 We would like to thank Learning Works Charter School (@learningwks) for trusting us to be a part of their students’ educational experience. Through this partnership, we had the opportunity to lead a Basketball P.E. class as part of the school’s curriculum, teaching the game the right way—through discipline, teamwork, confidence, leadership, and elite basketball fundamentals. 📚⛹️‍♀️⛹️‍♂️ Watching these young athletes grow week after week was the real victory. From learning proper footwork and ball handling to building character on and off the court, this group showed up ready to work every single session. 💪 Congratulations to all the young students and hoopers who completed the program—you earned it! Keep grinding, keep learning, and keep believing in yourselves. The future is bright. 🌟 Special shoutout to our Athletic Director Sho Watanabe for helping lead the charge and creating a positive impact on the next generation through the game we love. 🧡 This partnership is another reminder that our organization’s basketball fundamentals program is designed to serve schools, organizations, and youth programs looking to provide high-quality basketball instruction that develops both athletes and young leaders. Please reach out to us as we’re open to new collaborations! 🤝 Thank you again to Learning Works and their teachers for allowing us to pour into your youth. We look forward to creating more opportunities like this in the future. 🫡 #Hoops4Justice #LearningWorksCharterSchool #YouthDevelopment #BasketballTraining

There will be no “today” without GOD and the village I rely on, I cannot express how much community means to me and what letting go really means. The speeches, the pictures, the events, the awards, the certificates, the scholarships, all has a price that consist of Long nights doing homework or studying, waking up at 5:00 am to be secretary of an AA meeting, attending long board meetings, attending community engagement programs, emails, phone calls late night 10:00pm gym sessions and the wave of emotions. I am honored when they say “you define resilience because you don’t quit” that sums it all up “I just don’t quit” #2027aspccPresident #highereducation #core #Risingscholar #dreamers
