Once you have the water training behind you, you'll be prepared for the trail and have a fun, enjoyable ride. When finished, the horse should move up to, inspect, and boldly move through and exit the water hazard just like any other obstacle encountered on the trail.

To train for water, I always start on the ground by driving the horse into the water. I have found it best to allow the horse to thoroughly think the water obstacle through. If you listen, the horse will often ask you for a little more time to process it all. So let the scenario run through its mind, and when it finally clicks, it usually just walks in with very little drama. It's as though it had to work the fright and then the details out first.
