Me a few years ago at the Féria del Caballo in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. The origins of the Féria began in the medieval ages, when farmers gathered in the Andalusian city of Jerez during one week to buy and sell livestock, mainly cattle and beautiful horses, usually drinking to celebrate the deals. The origin of the fair of Jerez, occurs in the years of the Castilian conquest. Alfonso X carried out the policy of granting a cattle fair to the cities he occupied, to help activate the local economy. In the case of Jerez, the cattle fair was established in the second half of the thirteenth century, specifically some historians point to 1264, shortly after the definitive Castilian conquest of the city. In the nineteenth century, the first variations around the concept of the fair occurred. From a cattle fair, it evolved into a weeklong exhibition, celebrating horses, flamenco music, fighting bulls and sherry wine.

Southern Spain, Andalucía, on a caballo español…my soul place. What is a soul place you ask?

“A soul place, or sacred soul place as I to refer to it, are places on earth that hold a special magic for us and help us connect more deeply to our inner spirit and the great spirit beyond.

Some times these sacred soul places are called ‘power places’.
Each of us will have different experiences at these sacred places, but you’re pretty much guaranteed to leave feeling better after spending time in a place that plugs you back into your divine essence.
You feel a noticeable ‘shift’ in how you feel and think after spending time there.

It’s so important to make time to visit your sacred soul places, because it will be easier to tap into creative ideas, inspiration, guidance, and healing after spending time there. Which is essential when you are soul searching for the work you are being called to do and the contribution you are being called to make at this important time on the planet.
It also vital for all of us to recharge and recentre ourselves in our soul places as we continue the work of creating a more loving, just world.
It’s tough work and it can feel terrifying to look at what’s happening in the world and what needs to shift. So the more we are plugged into and aligned with our divinity and spiritual selves, the easier we will find it to maintain our hope and optimism for the future. Soul places help us do this. “
