"A Set of Three Stairs." // Today I felt compelled to go for a walk and photograph something. Was I feeling inspired? Absolutely not. I wandered aimlessly for a good while, photographing squirrels and birds and other random things I found, feeling no connection to anything I was shooting. I was walking around Lee University in Cleveland, TN, and there were students everywhere - I think it was some kind of summer camp. So not only was I feeling uninspired, but I surprisingly felt awkward with so many people around... Perhaps because that creative energy wasn't there and I felt out of place. Even though I basically grew up on the campus (considering my father was, and is still, a professor at the university.)

But eventually my eye caught something - a beautiful silhouette of a staircase at the Squires Library. I was actually a little surprised how much I liked the organic composition. That picture helped guide my next ones. I wandered some more, taking photographs of other windows and buildings and eventually I settled on three photos I felt had created a cohesive theme without me realizing it.

It was a challenging but fun return to my roots: I've always loved architectural photography. The lines, framing, and symmetry always appealed to me. And it always gives me a new respect for the artisans and architects who built the beautiful structures around us.
