Keith playing his Sadowsky Nylon: On December 19, 1989, The Rolling Stones played the penultimate night of their massive Steel Wheels North American tour at the Atlantic City Convention Center. Broadcast live across the globe on pay-per-view (Terrifying), the concert reached its peak rock-and-roll summit when Mick Jagger called out two special guests from Guns N’ Roses: frontman Axl Rose and rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin. Having previously opened four historic dates for the Stones at the L.A. Coliseum just two months prior, Axl and Izzy joined the British rock icons to perform a rare, soul-stirring live rendition of “Salt of the Earth” —the gospel-tinged closing track from 1968’s Beggars Banquet, which the Stones had essentially never performed in a standard concert setting. With Keith Richards kicking off the opening acoustic guitar chords and shared vocal duties, Izzy slotted straight into the Richards-Wood guitar weave, while Axl-dressed in a sparkling oversized jacket, bandana, and backwards cap-traded raspy, soaring vocal lines toe-to-toe with Jagger. It was an iconic passing-of-the-torch moment that brought raw Sunset Strip attitude to classic British blues-rock royalty. C/O: @legendarygigs

The 1992 Madison Square Garden Incident Two weeks after Sinéad O'Connor tore up a photo of Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live to protest child abuse in the Catholic Church, she faced a hostile crowd at Bob Dylan's 30th-anniversary concert. When the audience began loudly booing her, event staff asked Kris Kristofferson to escort her off the stage. Instead, Kristofferson walked out, put his arm around her, and whispered into the microphone, "Don't let the bastards get you down". O'Connor later recalled telling him, "I'm not down," before proceeding with her performance with remarkable courage. Friendship and "Sister Sinead" Kristofferson remained a steadfast supporter of O'Connor throughout the backlash when most of the entertainment industry turned their backs on her. He later honored her resilience and integrity by writing the 2009 song "Sister Sinead," releasing it on his album Closer to the Bone. The two also shared memorable musical moments together later in life, including a powerful duet of Kristofferson’s classic "Help Me Make It Through the Night" on television

What an epic night this was!! Sold out Madison Square Garden. The energy was Epic! The first record I ever purchased was a James Brown record. I walked to the store as an 8 year old kid on my own, and spent my own money on it. I was beyond happy and enjoying that record! This night was full circle!!.... Thanks @legendarygigs for posting this! And, thanks @davematthewsband for inviting me to play guitar that night!!
