February may be National Heart Month, but today is my day of awareness.

Twelve years ago, on 8/8, I lost my husband to a massive heart attack at just 44 years old.

Our bodies—inside and out—are the foundation of everything we do. Every little choice matters.

His loss left an enormous hole in our family. Raising our four incredibly different daughters without him was no walk in the park. But today, I choose to focus on what this day represents.

To me, the number 8 is an unbroken loop—a bond that cannot be severed by physical separation. I feel his presence every day. Whether you believe in the Lions Gate Portal or simply in the power of love, 8/8 reminds me that love and connection continue beyond what we can see.

Writing and publishing *Paddle Out* helped me put into words the choices that brought me to where I am today. The good, the bad, and the ugly—they are all part of my story and my truth. I’ve learned that choosing love, again and again, helps carry us through pain, sadness, and anger with greater acceptance, ease, and grace.

Right now, this is our life. It’s not someday—it’s today. So here’s your reminder to love it with all your heart. Love the people around you, take care of your body, embrace what is, and trust the gentle flow of life. Even in loss, our deepest connections remain unbroken.
