Neither Amex nor Chase transfers to American Airlines... but there’s a backdoor most people don’t know about.

Here are the steps for booking domestic AA first class (without AA miles):

1. Find the AA seat on BA.com (Book with Avios)
2. Book it through Finnair, where it’s priced lower
3. Transfer your Amex or Chase points into Avios, then into Finnair
4. Call Finnair to book the partner award flight

Finnair usually sells premium cabins for less than the price than you could buy them off the AA website directly.

Plus, the taxes are nice and low, around $5.65.
