25 years ago today, I lived through something I’ll never fully put into words but I’ll try. The day before, I ran into an old high school friend, David LeMagne, for the first time since we were kids. He’d transitioned from EMT to the Port Authority Police Department. We caught up, like old friends do. The next morning, September 12th, I found out he didn’t make it home. He passed away in the incident. I think about that chance encounter more than I can explain. That morning, September 11th, I took the train into the WTC like any other day. When the first plane hit, none of us knew what was happening, just confusion and people staring up. I walked to my office at Topps trading cards and was meeting with coworkers when the second plane hit. That’s when we knew this was no accident. All hell broke loose. We got outside and I saw things I can’t unsee the panic on people’s faces, WTC employees jumping to escape the flames. Cell networks were dead. The only phones that worked were our Nextel radios. I remember screaming into mine, trying to reach my best friend who worked in the Empire State Building, begging him to get out before anyone knew what might happen next. When the towers came down, I sprinted back to our office lobby and watched smoke swallow the entire area. We ran upstairs and grabbed anything we could find to cover our faces including game-used memorabilia jerseys, because that’s what we had.Every bridge and tunnel out of Manhattan was shut down. No way to reach anyone. I genuinely didn’t know if I’d make it home to New Jersey. Eventually I made it to South Street Seaport, where they were loading people onto boats just to get us across the water where we were hosed down and given water like refugees in our own city. I don’t share this for likes. I share it because 25 years later, some memories are still that vivid, and some people like David are still gone. Never forget.

I’m sitting here trying to figure out how 18yrs have gone by so fast. Felt like just yesterday, I was driving you home from the hospital literally doing 20mph because I was scared something would happen to you. But here we are August 7, 2025 and you are now officially 18yrs old. To say you saved my life is an understatement. To watch you grow into an amazing young woman makes me so proud when I hear someone say “that’s your daughter?” With honor I say yes she is! You mean the world to me little girl and no matter how old you get you will always be that to me. You are one of my many blessings that I continue to thank God for every day of my life. I pray over you every night as you sleep for the Lord to lead you and for His voice to be the loudest in any room you may ever enter. You are beautiful, gifted and extremely talented. I wear the title of “your dad” with honor. Lord be the lamp upon her feet and illuminate her steps. Guide her and give her the peace that surpasses all understanding. Keep her close to you as she enters this new chapter of her life constantly reminding her that you will not leave her, nor forsake her as you state in your word.
