So proud to be in @berliner_zeitung today of all days, and in this important context. The article is addressing so many things I feel passionate about - it’s an excellent read. Link in comment ✨

“The fact that fashion is often reflexively associated with women may seem like a cliché, but it is not completely taken out of thin air: Industry analyses show that women’s clothing with around 53 percent of consumer spending is the largest segment of the global fashion market, men’s fashion only 31 percent. In addition, according to the International Labour Organization (ILO) of the UN in Geneva, about 80 percent of the approximately 60 million people working in the clothing industry worldwide are women.

But a look at the real power relations reveals contradictions. As a McKinsey analysis (“Shattering the Glass Runway”) shows, only around 14 percent of the major fashion brands are run by women, and even in women’s fashion, the proportion of female creative management is well below half at 40 percent”
