Words cannot describe how much this experience meant to me. I am grateful that the Lord allowed me to grow in this space and will forever be grateful for the community he has bestowed upon me.
To my team— I love you all so much. Each of you shows the Holy Spirit in different ways and helps me seek the fullness of God. I pray we can all reunite in significant moments in each of our lives. 🩷
To the people of Uganda— thank you for the hospitality, the love, and my beautiful new friends. I will forever be in love with all of you and this beautiful country.
I cannot thank Jesus enough for everything he did in this amazing place. 🥹

~The One Where We Experienced Heaven on Earth

We make small the glory of heaven when we view it as a distant reward at the end of our life, instead of a journey of restoration that begins right now as we walk this earthen ground ~ a life of freedom and abundance discovered through intimacy with God and his people in His created world now, and always.

Almost got hit by a truck but that’s okay we survived 🤷🏼‍♀️

3 weeks in. Our feet are filthy and our bodies feel the weight of late nights and early mornings. While energy has dimmed a bit, our eyes are focus on all the light pouring in and through us. There is beauty everywhere we look. In the joy of Agnes, in the videos of Peter, in the multi-lingual prayer that sounded like heaven on earth. It’s in the hospitality of nut free blenders, bedside malaria tests, birthday dinners, and the waiter who learned our names. It’s in the worship around fires, the deep connections forming, and the affirmations pouring out around the table. It’s in the wind blowing us across the savannah, in the herd protecting the infant elephant, and the vibrant orange sun rising beyond the acacia tree, then sinking behind the giraffe. What a privilege for our hands to carry fresh purpose, and our hearts to hold new stories and perspectives about God’s heart and overwhelming grace for the Pearl of Africa.

Dwell piloted an Urban Garden Program while interns are here. Doreen has been teaching our homeowners the importance of a balanced diet, and educating the community on the different food groups and how they benefit the body. One of our homeowners, Patrick, has a large garden in Walukuba. He helped Doreen start a community garden on his plot of land. The interns helped our members transplant the seedlings into their own personal gardens. We started with greens like spinach, sukumawiki, and dodo. Thanks to the interns for literally getting their hands dirty in Dwell’s work!

Here’s why this matters:

1. Our homeowners are learning how to live well in their safe homes.
2. One of our members is giving back to the community and generously sharing his wisdom and resources.
3. Planting small gardens on their compounds is one way to empower our community to practice good nutrition.

Yesterday we worshipped in new languages, and put our faces to the sun, and squished into a van like locals in a matatu. We watched the sun sink into Lake Victoria, and we spun under the stars, and picked lake flies off our pizza before eating it. We shared the things we want to leave behind from last week, and all we want to carry with us into the coming days. We dwelled in the Word and shared some reflections about what we’re witnessing, what it’s revealing in us, and how our hearts are being shaped. The days are long and good, and I can’t believe I get to share them with these 10 dear souls.
