Thursday marks one year since the body of 11-year-old Jacqueline "Mimi" Torres-Garcia was found behind an abandoned building in New Britain.

Mimi's mother, Karla Garcia; her mother's boyfriend, Jonatan Nanita; and Mimi's aunt, Jackelyn Garcia, have all been charged in connection with the case.

Here's how the case has unfolded and what we've learned about the investigation since it began a year ago.

🌻What a fun day at @thedenisefoundation Kindness Classic!! We had a record turnout and players from all television stations in the Hartford New Haven market turned out. Grateful to our amazing sponsors and all those who came out to celebrate the legacy of a great lady. And go ahead and make fun of my sunflower yellow shorts ! 🌻

Bradley International Airport just expanded its TSA security checkpoint — a project three years in the making.

The $2.2 million expansion adds two security lanes and more space for passengers to line up, with airport officials hoping it will make getting through security smoother. The Connecticut Airport Authority says no state taxpayer dollars were used for the project.

I’m a social worker working across forensic social work, disaster and emergency response, and policy and legislation. You can often find me in a library, a school, or out in my community—connecting people with resources and turning advocacy into action.

I’m currently spearheading the #FreeAbdus campaign in Connecticut, advocating for Isma’il’s freedom and the proposed Wrongful Conviction Relief Act to help people challenge wrongful convictions. Too often, the legal system gets it wrong, and families bear the consequences for generations.

My work is about supporting people through crises and challenging the systems that create them. Justice means listening, examining credible evidence, and correcting mistakes.

Sign and share the FreeAbdus petition. Link in bio. ✊🏾

Now I’m perimenopausal and dealing with teenage-like skin all over again. These experiences remind me that reproductive and preventive healthcare must be treated as essential—not optional.

In Connecticut, a woman in a cell next to me was sent to the ER because there were no menstrual pads. When I was pregnant, it took four days to check my baby’s heartbeat. I was also told, “If you’re not suicidal, go back to your cell.”

Incarceration should not mean medical neglect. Thank you, @gary.winfield.288543 , for advancing healthcare and dignity for incarcerated people.

If you are seeing this post Sign and share the petition as we work to make justice accessible. Link in my bio!
