Growing up, I never really pictured myself as a bride.

I pictured myself as an astronaut. A corporate girlie in formal skirts and suits, coffee in hand, probably a Starbucks. And eventually, for the better part of a decade, a pilot.

But a bride? Somehow, never.

As the big day approached, I kept waiting for the image to form in my head. It never did. My imagination, usually so generous, failed me spectacularly this time around. Which, unsurprisingly, made figuring out the look and all its little details about ten times harder.

I remember calling my best friends, constantly cribbing and panicking about what was wrong with me, why I seemingly didn’t have a single bridal bone in my body. They listened patiently, reassured me, and reminded me that no matter what, it would be the best day of my life.

But somewhere in the middle of all that overthinking, I realised there was one thing I had never struggled to picture.

Being Aravind’s wife.

That image had been clear from the moment I fell in love with this boy.

We’d spent years dreaming up the life we wanted to build together. Talking about the values we wanted to live by, the things we would never compromise on, what love should look like, and what our version of a happy marriage would mean. Long before I could picture a wedding, I could picture a life with him.

And perhaps that’s what got me through it all.

I don’t know if I could have been a better bride, a better host, or planned a more perfect wedding. But I do know that, every day, I’m learning to be a better partner, a better wife. And that he’s learning, every day, how to love me a little better, how to show up for me, and how to hold my hand through all the things I haven’t quite figured out yet.

Maybe I was never very good at imagining myself as a bride because, deep down, the wedding was never the part I was dreaming about.

It was always the marriage. And him. ❤️
