📚 Black History Month Recommendations: Thriller, Crime and Horror 📚

.. also known as books I have to read in the day and with all the lights on and doors locked.

Part 4 of BHM recs are here and we have a group of genres I’m so intrigued by but truly terrified and in awe of. Have I missed some off? Probably. Have I doubled up? Most likely. Will I spot them as soon as I post this? Of course.

There’s probably some that might cross into another genre too but who’s counting? More genres are on their way!

Shelves behind are the brilliant @afroribooks 🩵

Save this post to keep all these recs and let me know some of your faves on here!

Lush first visit to #cheltlitfest last week. Saw big names and debuts, hung out in a Moroccan cabin, fangirled over Children’s Laureate Patrice Lawrence, bought more books than my case could handle and was always, always editing my manuscript. Bliss.

📚✨ Weekly Reading Recap | October 12–18

Slowly recovering, resting, reading, and finally getting out for a little walk! 🥹💗 One small step at a time as I work my way back to my everyday routine (hopefully soon!)

This week was a little win because I FINALLY got to spend more time with my books, Kindle, and headphones again. YAYAY! 😅💕 I missed them more than you know!

📖 Books I finished this week:

✨ Frida’s Cook
✨ Meet Cute Magic
✨ Murder at the Grand Alpine Hotel

🫣 Currently finishing up The Exs for @diverse.readerssociety Bookclub, and I’m really enjoying it so far!

Taking it slow, giving myself time to heal, and celebrating the little things. 🫶🏼

What are you reading this week? Give me all the book recs! 👇🏼📚💕

I fell down a bit in my reel-making duties at this year's @murderonefest because I failed to capture video evidence of many of the murdery faces that descended on Dun Laoghaire - but here's what *did* end up on my camera roll. Congrats to the entire @murderonefest team on another fabulous weekend of great chats and great reads. My personal highlights included getting to interrogate @janecaseyauthor and @andreamaraauthor, our traditional visit to Karen's Kitchen (brought to you by @karenperrywrites), @_antoniolanzetta_'s stories, our panel on first lines that wasn't really about first lines at all, seeing the FEAR anthology finally out in the world and rearranging all the chairs in the Royal Marine lobby two nights in a row.

Roll on M1 2027!

PS. Literally made this on the bus home

PPS. #notanad Insta, just a recap!

WOW what an absolute rollercoaster this was — without giving spoilers this was the most shocking book ever. From the beginning of the book all the way to the end i couldn’t guess what would happen next. Such a beautifully written book and thank you @marsknowsbooks for putting me on to this amazing and shocking book!

All the characters were written so well, Natalie was an interesting character from the start and as she slowly uncovers her repressed trauma i felt like i got to know her better and see more parts of her! The trauma of all her exes and the mystery of what happened to them was so gripping i genuinely couldn’t put this book down!

If you’re looking for a book to grab your attention definitely pick this one up!

$🖤 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 ~ 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 🖤 As someone of mixed heritage, whose paternal grandparents were part of the Windrush generation that came to the UK from Trinidad, representation in books has always mattered to me. 🇹🇹 This stack is just a tiny fraction of the incredible Black authors sitting on my bookshelves, authors who have entertained me, challenged me, educated me, made me uncomfortable, broken my heart and given me stories that deserve to be heard. And that’s why representation matters. Because our bookshelves should reflect the world we actually live in. Black authors shouldn’t only be picked up during Black History Month. Their stories, voices and experiences deserve space on our bookshelves all year round. There are so many incredible Black authors writing across every genre, so this Black History Month, I’m celebrating some of the brilliant Black authors already on my shelves and reminding myself that there are always more voices to discover. 🖤📚 Who are the Black authors you think everyone should have on their bookshelf? #BlackHistoryMonth #RepresentationMatters #BlackAuthors #ReadBlackAuthors #DiversifyYourBookshelf$
