Unapologetically eccentric, fluid, and bold.

In our latest issue, Leon Izegbu shares some insights on Alte culture. Alté was an unfiltered declaration of individuality in a conservative environment. Dressing Alté meant breaking free from rigid societal norms and taking full agency over self-expression.

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTORS: THE CULTURE BIBLE.

Nigerian culture is a living system of intelligence, memory, identity, and inherited knowledge, and in this highly anticipated issue, we’re going into the world’s least examined spaces where Nigerian and African intelligence has always lived, but has never been formally written down.

Architecture. Language. Mythology. Local medicine. Spirituality. Social behaviour. The body as an archive. Survival systems. Informal economies built without venture capital or blueprints: Alaba, Nnewi, Otigba, Aba. Ifá as epistemology, not mythology. The everyday spaces: the buka, the mechanic’s bend, the barbershop, where culture is actually made.

The goal is to create a modern cultural bible for a new generation of creators, thinkers, builders and leaders, one that not only preserves our truths, but inspires young Nigerians to now claim, champion, and scale as their own, driving both identity and economic power.

A bible is made of books. And we can’t write this one alone.
We’re looking for writers, researchers, journalists, photographers, archivists, oral historians, designers — anyone who carries this knowledge, has access to it, or knows how to find and document it. The knowledge already exists. It’s been here all along, in the places no one thought to look.

We just need the people bold enough to go find it, and write it down.

If that’s you, the call is open.

Submission window: 11th -23rd June. Link in bio.

The Humans of DMTCA were given a task to leave adulthood and be an Agbaya for a whole day, and they definitely understood the assignment😌.
