Congratulations to @thefuelandlumbercompany on a beautiful presentation at the Dita (@the_dita_artbnb / @melissa_messina)

A glimpse at GATHERING, curated by The Fuel and Lumber Company

GATHERING is a group exhibition placing Mildred Thompson’s 1970’s Wood Pictures in context with a group of celebrated contemporary artists from across the United States. The exhibition will be presented at The Dita, a domestic space, located in the Kirkwood neighborhood near the Pullman Yards where the Atlanta Art Fair will take place.

In contrast to Thompson’s better known chromatically charged paintings, these quiet constructions hover in the space between painting and sculpture. Both abstract and quite literal, the mysterious objects are remarkable for their materiality and construction - simultaneously serious, and seriously playful. Thompson’s use of the word ‘Picture’ in this regard also points to the allusive nature of these works as suggestive of an image while not undermining the objective qualities of the work. They simply refuse to settle down neatly into any of our preconceived ideas regarding object, image, abstraction, and representation. In this work all of the either/or binaries that we tend to attach to art seem to fall apart. The artists we have assembled for this exhibition have a shared commitment to the process-based rigor of their craft and approach their chosen materials with a similar sense of exploration and sensitivity.

On view now at Kiang Malingue New York, 𝘖𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘌𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘦: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘉𝘦𝘯𝘯𝘺’𝘴 𝘝𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘰 𝘙𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘹𝘦𝘥, an exhibition by Benny’s Video, a curatorial project of Craig Jun Li.

The artist-focus intention of Benny’s Video moves in the spirit of fantasy casting, sensitive to psychic and cosmic connections of magic, destiny, and friendships. Sited in a studio sublet of an artist friend, it forms around the conditions of art practices and the intertwined economies that enable and shape them, including Li whose practice is braided with his jobs as an arts worker, whether working for other artists, catsitting, or supporting artists’ estates. Sustained by the love of artists and a trust in the knowledge in “what makes artists tick,” it is shaped by a subjectivity beyond shared materials, movements, genealogy, social relations, as well as “crushes, curiosity, and desire.”

Plan your visit through August 7, 2026, at 50 Eldridge Street, New York.

Once More Encore: The First Year of Benny’s Video Remixed @kiangmalingue New York, 50 Eldridge Street. On view until August 7.

From Anthony Huberman, on the occasion of Guyer’s solo exhibition “form in the realm of” at the Wattis Institute, 2018:

“Léonie Guyer’s paintings and drawings consist mostly of abstract shapes, usually modest in scale. They are applied to wooden boards, marble fragments, aged paper, or directly onto the wall. In her mind, an artwork is a place where countless decisions are condensed and compacted together, and she intensifies that concentration by keeping her paintings reduced down to their bare essentials: color, surface, and shape.

Guyer is drawn to the moment that precedes language, and her work locates a space that we can’t yet recognize, name, or describe. She uses a repertoire of invented shapes - she calls them “reincarnations” - that are altered, bent, and endlessly re-adjusted. A simple dot or a line will not do. “It wouldn’t be idiosyncratic enough,” she says.”

Review: Léonie Guyer and Joyce Burstein, Amitié at 500 Capp Street

… “Léonie Guyer and Joyce Burstein, the current artists-in-residence, each met David Ireland during their student years at the San Francisco Art Institute. Their two-person exhibition Amitié—French for “friendship”—brings together memories of Ireland with their own distinct artistic trajectories. What is particularly compelling about the exhibition is the degree to which both artists extend Ireland’s ethos. Their installations do not simply occupy the rooms; they activate the house’s latent memories and emotional resonances. The exhibition feels less like a presentation of discrete artworks than an invitation to experience the house as a poetic field of relationships among people, objects, spaces, and time.” …
