🎥 FLASH WARNING!!! “Many Roots, One Rhythm” is a short film that highlights the diversity of the African diaspora through shared picture-day stories. The film compiles interviews in which participants reflect on hair rituals, caregivers, outfits, and cultural practices that shaped their youth, revealing both the differences and the similarities that connect Black communities globally. // 📣 DIRECTOR’S NOTES // “It is a passion project that connects all the different roots of the Black diaspora. Although we come from many different cultural backgrounds, we are brought together through the shared experience of picture day — a staple in many Black households. The film shows how we all carry similar experiences of adolescence, but also hold space for the growing pains and the journey of loving our hair and, in extension, our Blackness. We, as Black people, often come from long lineages of sorrow, or we don’t know where our families come from. Pieces of our history are hidden and lost to time. What I’m sure of is that my roots are full of beautiful, loving and inspirational Black Women. The Black Women in my life keep my heart full, and I know that my roots and my hair are safe. A sneak peek into the grand finale of the “Amelioration – What Is Good Hair?” Black Renaissance campaign.
