Around this time last year in 2025, @aglimpseofafricagr put on an amazing festival, filled with beautiful culture, loving people, and an energy unlike anything else in the city of Grand Rapids. Here is a quick look back at what that weekend was like. 🌍 This year, AGOA will be hosting a half day celebration on Sunday, August 15 from 2pm-7pm. It will feature a flag ceremony, music, and food and merchandise vendors. Be sure to come out and support! 🧡

Changing continents does not mean starting from zero.

Friday24, 2026. I had the honor of participating in the ELEVATE Conference, centered around the theme:

“Building a Career in the Creative Field and the Future of Technology.”

One of the questions I was asked:

“What skills were you able to transfer from one continent to another, and what did you have to relearn?”

My answer: I carried with me my ability to adapt, build relationships, identify opportunities, and solve problems. These skills remain universal, whether in the Democratic Republic of Congo or in the United States.

However, I also learned the humility of becoming a beginner again — understanding a new culture, navigating new systems, and learning new ways to build professional networks.

Experience gives us a foundation, but adaptability allows us to grow.

Thank you to ELEVATE by les Clay for creating such a meaningful platform for conversation, learning, and inspiration.
