Set within five acres of Gloucestershire countryside, Lesley Cooke’s Georgian rectory is a study in balance, restraint and quiet elegance.

Built in 1788 from warm Cotswold stone, the house has been carefully restored to honour its original proportions while introducing a lighter, more contemporary sensibility throughout.

Outside, structured planting and clipped forms reinforce the calm architectural rhythm of the house, allowing both landscape and architecture to exist in complete harmony.

It was supposed to snow today in NY and alas…I dont believe I saw one flurry! And now after a day of spitting rain, the sky is turning pink. It’s pretty incredible… anyway, posting @lesleycooke ‘s famously picturesque home in England on a wildly snowy day.#lesleycooke #england #georgianarchitecture #home #snowday

The Old Rectory stands with a composed, almost effortless poise in the Gloucestershire countryside. Built in the late 18th century, its five-bay limestone façade and hipped stone-tile roof express the clarity and equilibrium of Georgian domestic architecture. The restoration, guided by @lesleycooke respects that inherent balance. Interiors were stripped back to their essential proportions, allowing the rhythm of tall sash windows, original stonework, and calm room sequences to reassert themselves.

Rooms unfold with an unforced grace: a drawing room held in pale mineral tones, a dining room softened by celadon silk, a kitchen re-established in the former coach house where its low eaves and timber structure lend warmth and intimacy. Throughout, furniture is placed rather than styled — antique, bespoke, and textural pieces chosen for quiet compatibility rather than display.

The gardens extend the architecture outward. Lawns lead to clipped hedges and orchard grassland, forming a gentle transition between house and landscape. The result is a home of measured serenity — not performative, but deeply assured; a rectory that has found its modern life through restraint, balance, and beautifully lived-in Englishness.

Lesley Cooke has crafted a home that neither bows to whim nor fads, but simply resonates—a neo‑Georgian hymn in pale celadon and powder blues, where every chair, chandelier, and leaf‑green wall seems to be in conversation with an 18th‑century propensity for proportion.
