Made a pilgrimage to the @metmuseum to see the piece by @lesleydill1 Dill — The Poetic Body: Poem Dress of Circulation — as part of the museum’s Costume Art exhibit. The delicate and exquisite piece employs lithograph, letterpress and collage and features the words of this Emily Dickinson poem: “The healed Heart shows its shallow scar With confidential moan— Not mended by Mortality Are Fabrics truly torn— To go its convalescent way So shameless is to see More genuine were Perfidy Than such Fidelity.” I was also thrilled to see it featured in the catalog in a section called “The Vital Body.”

We couldn’t help noticing the same sense of festivity in works across our collections: Sharif Bey’s sculptural neckpieces; the evening glow of New Orleans in Bob Krist’s French Quarter Evening; the shifting light of Vik Muniz’s installation in Brasília; the ceremonial pageantry of Lesley Dill’s suspended crown; and the shared-table traditions in Phyllis Yes’s Bread paintings.

Liminal The Final Exhibition March 1 – May 31, 2026 In a liminal phase, we transition from one status to another, a condition of uncertainty and possibility. What was familiar passes away; what is to come has not yet arrived. We may reflect on the past and envision the future. ***** MOCRA enters into a liminal phase with this, its final exhibition. The museum will close permanently at Liminal’s conclusion. Since opening in 1993, MOCRA has pursued an expansive and inclusive exploration of the spiritual and religious dimensions in contemporary art. With works from the collection alongside works by artists new to MOCRA, Liminal celebrates 33 years of this first-of-its-kind museum and affirms the ongoing engagement of contemporary art with religion and spirituality. ***** Liminal is curated by MOCRA Director David Brinker with contributing curators Jessica Baran, René Paul Barilleaux, Aaron Rosen, and Summer Sloane-Britt.
